Ive tryed setting up wds multiple times on two fonera routers with the newest dd-wrt version. I used the WIKI to set it up http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php?title=WDS_Linked_router_network

The problem is that when i set up the wds the ssid is no longer broadcasted. The two routers talk to each other and therefor act as a bridge, but neither routers will broadcast there ssid.

I can see the signal if i use netstumbler, but it shows that there is no ssid on that it sees the signal

Thats a bug with WDS on Fonera. Not resolved yet.

I have tried WDS between Fonera and WRT54GL so many times, and they cant even communicate. Seems only two Foneras can be setup in WDS for it to work somewhat.

I have given that up, better solution is client mode with a VAP.

I've been waiting for the AP+WDS tab bug to be fixed too. It's just so much neater than running it through virtual interface.

Its seems like most wireless redistribution options don't work on fon hardware. I was going to use this tutorial http://www.wi-fiplanet.com/tutorials/article.php/3655041

to make it a repeater, but i dont even have that option in my dropdown list

Unfortunately the only WDS related feature that works with the Fonera at this time seems to be WDS AP+WDS Station. It's all fine if all the devices involved in the WDS are Fons, but useless if you're trying to link up with existing routers like the WRT54G.

Yes, WRT54G has broadcom chiipset which doesnt support WDS AP/Station.

Maybe WDS is easier, but then you will have an unencrypted ommunication, which is not preferreble. With a VAP you can have whichever encryption you want.
