Hi all,
first, apologies if this has been answered before but couldn't find the answer.
I am not fully knowledgeable on networks though able to understand a good explanation Wink
I am looking for some guidance to setup my home network properly.
I have two routers, the 1st connected to ISP modem and 2nd wired to 1st running DD-WRT and with OpenVPN settings.
What I want is to be able to have network 'visibility' between both networks. This will allow my AppleTV which is connected to the DD-WRT also be able to detect my Mac connected to first router.
I'll try to make it more visual.

ISP Modem
Router 1 (Airport Extreme)
WAN as per ISP
LAN 10.0.1.1
iMac connected via WiFi to Router 1 with LAN IP 10.0.1.10

Router 2 (E2000 DD-WRT w/OpenVPN config) physically connected to Router 1 via Ethernet
WAN 10.0.1.3
LAN 192.168.1.1
AppleTV connected to Router 2 via Ethernet with LAN IP 192.168.1.147

In this config the iMac cant see the AppleTV or opposite.
I understand this is happening because second router is also doing DHCP but don't know how to fix while keeping the second router with VPN.

Help is much appreciated!

Thanks!

Two ways to accomplish this ..

1. Disable DHCP on the 2nd router, Keep all devices on the same network .. 10.0.1.*. They will see/interact with each other. This is the easiest.

2. Setup firewall rules on the 1st router to accept/forward destined for the netwrok managed by the 2nd router. I havent worked with airport Extreme, dont know how you would add these rules.

If you go with option #1, you will have to manage your OpenVPN config files, so the dynamic address allocation is OUTSIDE the range of addressess managed by the Airport Extreme.
