There are 2 behaviors that I want to share with you and that don't seem normal:
-I can connect to the host AP, ping it and access the network from my PC connected to a LAN port.
However, immediately when I add a virtual interface and apply the settings, I loose this connectivity and no longer can ping the host AP. When using repeater mode, the WAN IP is lost.
-Other problem, when I add the virtual wlan interface, the only way to connect to this WLAN is without authentication or WEP authentication. With WPA/WPA2 personal, I get no IP address (yes, DHCP is active for this segment).
I am facing the same problem with a linksys e3200, firmware DD-WRT v3.0-r30949 mega (12/15/16).
The host router uses WPA2 personal AES. So I configured the virtual wlan to use WPA2 personal AES with the same password.
Results:
The ddwrt router connects to the host router as expected. But the virtual wlan seems to never load as it never appears on any device I used to test. (laptops, iphone, android tv). (it doesn't even show up, I can't even try to connect on it).
Expected results: Virtual wlan loads and shows up and I can connect to it.
Notes:
The only setup that works is if the security of the vlan must be WEP 64 bits or no authentification at all. For all others types, the virtual wlan never shows up.
Is there anyone here that runs a e3200 in repeater mode (not repeater bridge), and has WPA2-AES enabled and working ? Which build are you using ?

Just sharing my own tests results:
- WPA2 AES encryption does't work for the virtual wlan in repeater modes for E3200, builds #30949, #33555 and #34929.
- The only build I found so far in which it's working is the 25974.

From your build thread post...

Kernel: K2.6
Mode/Status: Repeater / Not working with WPA2 AES. Works only with WEP or no encryption.
See here, in red. Use the k3x build; though an 3000 user reported wireless issues on this build.
Search the new build threads...someone ran k3x fine on 33555:

Issues/Errors: None so far, update over GUI
Note, for the final Broadcom krack fixes use at least 33772. This really only matters for Repeater/RB and Client/CB modes. Also SFE accelerated NAT is supported by broadcom_K3X since 33006.
Also, E-series k3x may break wireless when reset. I updated the E3200 wiki:

If a K3X reset breaks wireless, flash the same version but the K26 build, reset then flash K3X without reset
Alternative for you...flash K3X, save a nvram config backup, reset, then if you have problems, just restore your backup. _________________ #NAT/SFE/CTF: limited speed w/ DD#Repeater issues#DD-WRT info: FAQ, Builds, Types, Modes, Changes, Demo#

I flashed dd-wrt.v24-19342_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e3200.bin as recommended from Wiki, have both 2.4Ghz and 5GHz available. However, then I updated to dd-wrt.v24-39144_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-e3200.bin, 5Ghz wifi disappeared. then I tried:
1. Flash dd-wrt.v24-39144_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e3200.bin and then back to dd-wrt.v24-39144_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-e3200.bin, still no 5Ghz wifi.
2. Flash dd-wrt.v24-19342_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e3200.bin, no 5ghz wifi.
3. Flash to stock firmware, both WIFI ok, then flash dd-wrt.v24-19342_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e3200.bin, no 5GHz wifi
Eventually I flash back to Tomato, both WIFIs are ok.

any advice?
The 5ghz band is not supported with dd-wrt. Never has been. _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.
