Hello barryware!
If i have CA-42 and it need power about 3V on its pin for working, which pins i should connect to serial in wan port? Is enough connect only TX/RX pins? And btw can i flash BrainSlayers 18024 big? because i think most peoples flash old versions of firmwares what do you recommend? Thanks for answers.
I have a Linksys E2000, which looks like bricked, after a failed update attempt from dd-wrt.v24-14929_NEWD-2_K2.6_std_usb_ftp-e2000.bin to dd-wrt.v24-17990_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega.bin.
Now, the router keeps blinking the power LED and the LAN ports are working.
If I set the IP address on my computer manually and start pinging to 192.168.1.1, i see a single reply out of ~15 reboots, even with the ARP address entered manually.
I tried to put the default firmware with tftp, but the TFTP client times out.
Can anyone tell me what should I do next, before attempting to recover with a serial cable ?
I couldn't manage to fix the router using the guide starting at step 6.
It worked this way:
I bought an FTDI USB TTL Serial cable with 3.3v TTL signalling. I used the model TTL-232R-3V3-WE, but it should work with those models too: TTL-232RG-VREG3V3-WE, TTL-232RG-VSW3V3-WE)
On the PC i used 192.168.1.2 and I had prepared the original firmware, named e2000_mfg.bin. I prepared the TFTP put command line, because there is a small time window to upload the firmware.
I booted the router, stopped the loader with Ctrl+C, I've sent a
Code:
ping 192.168.1.2
to eliminate a potential wait time for the TFTP client, and then I issued this command on the router:
flash -ctheader : flash1.trx
This works better than the command described in other thread
flash -ctheader -mem -size=0x531400 0x807a60b0 flash1.trx
because E2000 seems to not like the -mem switch.
If you had followed the peacock announcement, you would have been using the serial recovery information from the wiki, which would have worked....
No where does it say to use the procedures in "Serial Port in the Wan Port" thread. _________________ SIG:

Bricked! flashing with the wrong firmware.
E3000.. only power light is blinking.
I have tried the serial recovery with no help.
USB cable is at COM4.
Putty is COM4 - 115200 - 8 - 1 - none - none.
Start Putty.
Power router on.
2 symbols comes up and stops there.
Cables on the pictures are:
Black = Grn
White = Rx
Gray = Tx
Any idea what I have missed?

Man... Depending on what was on the router, and what you flashed, serial will not work unless you erase nvram via jtag. And once you do, you can not let the router boot again without stopping the boot via serial, or you have to do it all over again.
jtag is a challenge on the 3000 (and the 610v2) because linksys has disabled the circuit.
If you are in the US, I will give it a lash.. (never done it before, but have seen it on tv )
PM if you wish..
EDIT: looking at your pic..
It looks like I have worked on that router (that is the way I mark the pcb.. I can't remember all the users / routers I fix). Is there a jtag header installed.. If so, I enabled the jtag port.
Butt You may also want to connect the vcc (3.3v). Not sure exactly how your adapter works. It may need vcc connected. You might want to switch tx & rx.. I have an adapter that is marked tx, but it is really rx (meaning, the adapter was telling me what to connect to.. get it?) _________________ [Moderator Deleted]

Kidding aside.. Any jtag operations I have preformed on the E3000 (610V2), have been with a wiggler. Not sure if an unbuffered cable will work.
I wuz working with T~ on this router as well as the E2000 (320), then both he & I got busy at the time.. Since, I (we), have not been back to it. _________________ [Moderator Deleted]
