Excellent, looks good. ca-42 clones was always just easier for me, an i like the longer cable that comes with ca-42 clones, but whatever works. Here is a pic of the pinouts for reference.
Something's gone wrong. Not getting anything ineligible out of the port...
First tried the ribbon cable trick to no avail, then took it apart and soldered onto the internal pads.
Turn it on and I get a random character. Settings are 115K2 8N1.
Dead router
Those pads have a protective finish on them. You have to get through that finish to the pads. If you soldered them, you should be through. Check continuity. Serial recovery wiki has good info. _________________ SIG:

Some (not all) usb ttl converts need vcc connected.. Some only tx, rx, and ground.
remove the tx & rx wires from the router and twist them together. Now see if your typed characters are echo'd correctly in your terminal.
also check your com parameters. Depending on the hardware & driver, you may have to set the parameters in the device manager as well as your terminal software. _________________ [Moderator Deleted]
I have a e2000 bricked. I got a ca-42 cable and soldered it to the serial port. After many attempts I am able to stop cfe boot sequence, but any command i type on screen is being showed as garbage. I am able to see all the written contents on the screen properly, just anything i type is being show as garbage. My ca-42 cable came with 3 wires. I simply connected rx,tx and ground as shown in the serial recovery wiki. There is no connection to 3.3v pin

You most likely hooked up the cable wrong, most times when you get rubbish output it is from having the Tx/Rx reversed.
Or a bad ground... _________________ SIG:

if rx/tx were reversed would i still see the boot sequence on the serial connection. all the CFE boot sequence text is being shown perfectly, only the commands i type are being shown incorrectly
Hello, i bricked E3000. On serial port output.

You have to hit ctrl-c EXTREMELY fast. Either you are not being fast enough or your connection to the router is not correct. Check to see if you can echo commands if you connect tx and rx. _________________ SIG:

I went to update the firmware to the latest dd-wrt and it ran into a boot-loop. I then proceeded to flash it via serial and everything went fine, until it rebooted. Now serial's dead and all I have is a flashing power light and nothing else.
This is the first time this has happened to me. I've flashed countless routers to dd-wrt without issues. So, why is this one so darn picky?
