Hi all,
Can you guys recommend a good 40-50 dollar range router that I can install dd wrt on for a repeater purposes? I have weak signal upstairs and need something.

NETGEAR WNR834B-100NAS Wireless N Router???
I dont know if netgear wnr834B would be v1 or v2 in the supported router database it shows that v1 has this comment "initial flash: modded .chk file. updater in progress" which I think maybe difficult for me to do...

Yes. The E3000 is a lot better and includes Gigabit Ethernet + 5GHz and USB.
I recommended WNR834B if you needed/wanted multiple repeaters for a cheap price.
