Hi guys,
I´ve been having problems while configuring my E4200 with DD-WRT 17084 with WDS or Bridge. Just to explain little bit more how my network works. I have a TOHMSON adsl modem that connects to the internet with IP (192.168.1.1). I´ve plugged the cable that comes from it on the WAN port of my “host” router internet works with cable and wireless. I´ve set the host router IP to 192.168.1.5 with the gateway and DNS of 192.168.1.1 and set the client router with the IP 192.168.1.6 tried both (gateway and dns) as 192.168.1.5 (host router ip) since WDS did work but internet connectivity on client router didn’t so I´ve set gateway and dns as 192.168.1.1 (since is the ip of the ADSL modem) but Internet connectivity worked for 6 hours then dropped.
Today I´ve went to the computer that is connected to host router by cable and got the ipconfig and for some reason the gateway there was 192.168.1.5 (while all the settings were set to 192.168.1.1 as gateway) no idea why that happened but because of that it lost internet connectivity. With all this problems of course WDS isn’t working. I am able to configure WDS and keep the WDS Node with strength signal but internet always drop after some time on client router. Even WDS or Repeater Bridge.
I am no expert on networking issues I´ve followed the DD-WRT wiki to configure this routers. I would like to ask for someone with networking knowledge to read my network configuration and suggest what configuration I should use to have a stable connection.
Summary of network configuration
Internet ADSL modem: 192.168.1.1
Host Router:
Local IP: 192.168.1.5
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS: 192.168.1.1
Client Router:
Local IP: 192.168.1.6
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS: 192.168.1.1

Thanks in advance for the help.

What are you using as your DHCP server, the modem? Also when you said your gateway was 192.168.1.5 what were you looking at? Your computer or the 4200?

firestorm126,
Firstly thank you for the help. My DHCP server is the host router starts distributing IPs from the 192.168.1.50 range, the client router has DHCP disabled. About the 192.16.1.5 gateway was on the wired computer that is connected to the host router. Even though the E4200 is configured to use as gateway 192.168.1.1.
If there is anything else that I´ve missed to inform please let me know. Any ideas are valid since it isn’t working the way it is at the moment.
Regards,
Sururu

Have you tried setting up your client router as router bridge?

You need to make sure that...

1. You have setup your wireless security to WPA2 / AES only.

2. Both routers need to have the same WPA Passphrase.

3. Both routers need to have the same Wireless setup.

4. You need to add a VAP to the client router (can have different wireless security credentials and should have a separate SSID.

5. Client router needs to be changed from Gateway to Router and Security (SPI Firewall) turned off.

Hopefully this helps you. These are from memory but the Wiki has good instructions for Linking routers, take a good look and read. I am not a fan of WDS.

L>ots of people have been reporting wireless problems with 17084. Also try setting your first router to 192.168.2.5 and plugging the modem into the routers wan port. Enable dhcp on the first router. You should be able to do either wds or client bridge (192.168.2.x) from that setup.

I think the issue is that you're using the same subnet on both sides of your router. Could you draw an image in paint or visio of what you have setup? This way I could figure out what you're trying to do.
