sorry for the noobness, but what is a backported driver?

I just bought a Huawei E392, is this much worse than the E398? Is there any hope of E392 working in DD-WRT "right out of the box" (couldn't test it with my Asus N13U Rev B1, build 18777 router yet...

Backporting drivers means copying the latest version from the newest Linux kernel into the source tree for the version used by DD-WRT, which is still an older version of Linux.

As for the differences between E392 and E398, I don't know. The E398 handles 4G, not sure if that could be a difference?

It's possible that the E392 works with the latest builds even if the E398 doesn't, if it's an older modem.

Some of you touched on this already but I'm afraid I'm not well versed enough in ssh etc to tell commands from output etc, I got a E398 and it works fine for 3G but I can't pick 4G, *99# is the only dial string that works, LTE works fine connected to a windows machine but dd-wrt won't let me pick 4g from connection methods.

E3000 19342 mega

What do I do to get LTE working? I got putty and know how to connect to my router with it.

Hi

I managed to use the modem as wan by hacking the option driver.

1. Setup everything in the setup section and use auto on network selection and no pin code. Dial command #99

2. setup a startup script to include the following

echo "12d1 1506" > /sys/bus/usb-serial/drivers/option1/new_id
sleep 20
usb_modeswitch -v 12d1 -p 1505 -V 12d1 -P 1506 -M "55534243123456780000000000000011062000000100000000000000000000" -n 1 -W
sleep 30
nvram set 3gdata=/dev/usb/tts/0

Then it should get online when you restart the router given that the apn are set correctly.

3. cron (if you get disconnected)

* * * * * [ "`/usr/sbin/nvram get 3gdata`" == "/dev/usb/tts/2" ] && /usr/sbin/nvram set 3gdata=/dev/usb/tts/0

that's it. If somebody can tell me how to integrate it in a init script I would be pleased.

Hello everyone,
this is my first post to this forum. Sorry for my english, it's not my native language. Smile

I have used DD-WRT firmware on my Asus RT-N16 router 2 years now and I am very pleased with it. Smile

Recently I changed my ADSL connection to 4G Dual Carrier/Huawei E392 modem. I have configured it succesfully with RT-N16 according to fleda's instructions (thanks!) and it's working well.

But there's one strange thing that I need your help. When I start router in cold boot, Huawei does not connect automatically into 4G network, it remains blinking blue led. Router must be rebooted through the DD-WRT GUI until it will connect. After warm boot everything works smoothly.

Does anybody have a clue what's going on? My DD-WRT version is v24-sp2 (12/20/11) mega - build 18024. Thanks in advance!
