Hi.
I can confirm that WA801ND V2 works flawlessly as WA830RE V2 which works as WR841ND V8. Laughing

How-to:

1. Download tp?????.exe from here: http://pan.baidu.com/wap/link?uk=3372662113&shareid=543978&third=0 (if link is dead, see here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=905165#905165)

2. Download r23204 build for tplink_tl-wr841ndv8 from here: http://dd-wrt.com/site/support/other-downloads?path=others%2Feko%2FBrainSlayer-V24-preSP2%2F2013%2F12-24-2013-r23204%2Ftplink_tl-wr841ndv8%2F
You can also try another build, such as r22118 (older but stable?) : http://dd-wrt.com/site/support/other-downloads?path=others%2Feko%2FBrainSlayer-V24-preSP2%2F2013%2F07-24-2013-r22118%2Ftplink_tl-wr841ndv8%2F

3. Open factory-to-ddwrt.bin in tp?????.exe and change two HEX-codes in firmware:
Code:
0x40-0x43: 08010002
0x44-0x47: 00000001

This needed for fix 18005 error while flashing DD-WRT in TP-LINK WegGUI.
If you get 18005 error anyway, flash last firmware upgrade (TL-WA801ND_V2_140425 at this moment), open it in tp?????.exe, find values for 0x40-0x43 and 0x44-0x47 and fill it in factory-to-ddwrt.bin.

4. Flash fixed factory-to-ddwrt.bin via tl-link web GUI.

5. Note, that after flashing DD-WRT you CANNOT access your device via LAN. Only via WLAN (Wi-Fi). You must fix this manually.
Connect to AP via Wi-Fi, set login and password, then DISABLE WAN and check "Assign WAN Port to Switch" option in Setup tab.

6. Save settings and reboot device.

Enjoy.

If you brave enough, you can try flash latest build for tplink_tl-wr841ndv8: ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2014/ and tell us results.

Hi,
it is working for my WA801nd V2 2013 and 2014 version. But I think the firmware 07/24/13 is more stable for my router.

Please tell me:
How can I return back to my original firmware? (TL-WA801ND_V2_140425)

Thank you!

Hello everybody! I am getting issues with wa801nd v.1.1. PPPoE doesn't work, the AP just wouldn't connect to ISP. I used the firmware version in the router database (pre-SP2) and the latest April version - all to no avail. Would be thankful for any help.

I've modified the header of the DD-WRT 29739 factory-to-ddwrt build intended for TL-WR841ND v11, so it will flash on a TL-WA801ND v3 running stock TP-Link firmware.
If the attached build works for you, it can be further updated with any newer-than-29739 webflash build for TL-WR841ND v11.

Disclaimer: I haven't tested the attached builds myself, so I'm not responsible in any way if you brick your router.
Please only flash this build if you know how to unbrick it.

Note: You must be logged in to be able to download the attachment.

I've modified the header of the DD-WRT 28072 factory-to-ddwrt build intended for TL-WA901ND v3, so that it will flash on a TL-WA801ND v2 running stock TP-Link firmware.
If the attached build works for you, it can be further updated with any newer-than-28072 webflash build for TL-WA901ND v3.

I've just flashed a WA801NDv2 with your attached image based on the WA901ND V3. And the upgraded it from the ftp-site with the latest 18/11. Works flawlessly!

Up and running with in/out ~45Mbit/s.

Question though, can't seem to find the SNMPD. Should I be able to find it in this firmware?

Hi again.

Found this:
* Status/Bandwidth makes the AP unresponsive, rebooting/power cycle brings it back.
* Enabling https hung my device so I had to do a hardreset (config lost).

Wondering this:
* Antenna gain? Should it be 0 or 4dbi as mentioned in the specs?

According to the chip numbers it should work as tl-wr841nd v10. I flashed it with wr841nd v10's dd-wrt image (modifying the header) but it caught in an infinite loop.

I used the Chinese program mentioned at this post http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=932603#932603 to change the header of the dd-wrt image to match the original oem fw, then i flash it through the web interface. The image did upload but the machine fell into a boot loop. I also tried the tfpt method (without serial cable) mentioned here https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr841nd#tftp_recovery_via_bootloader_for_v8_v9_v10_v11, but none worked. In the end I restored the original fw using the tfpt method, after i erased the boot part of it and renamed it to wa801ndv3_tp_recovery.bin.
