I have 4 of the damn things . I'm not a big fan of soldering and making my own cables tbh , I've made a few nullmodem cables and boot switches for my amiga back in the days when birds still walked on foot but would rather spend a bit of money for something pre made. Since there's not even a connector soldered on the board that isn't an option here either as far as I can see.

I am wondering if supporting the DWL-2100 with just flashing is even possible. I'm starting to think it's not from what I have been reading here and on the openwrt forums.

After being up a few hours Bonjour and other things like Airvideo on my phone stop working and they need a reboot . I have them set up at 2 different locations and it's the same story . Any replacement firmware would help me a lot in pinpointing what the exact issue is.. I just know my archaic philips SNA6600 works just fine ..

Is the cable described on the Openwrt page linked in the post above made by vpritiskovic something standard ? Or is it something that has to be custom made ?

Binning the damn things and buying 4 new routers .. or spend a day soldering breathing in lead fumes and resin ... sigh.

If you have read the openwrt wiki page for DWL-2100AP from the link vpritiskovic provided 5 posts up, then you may understand the difficulty in replacing the original firmware with another firmware.

dd-wrt must have a user friendly install procedure since most of its user are totally unable to do anything else than a web flash.
99% of dd-wrt users would brick their routers if they have to replace the boot loader and 2 out of 3 have no idea how to attach a serial ttl console.
If you belong to the other 1% then you are also knowledgeable enough to get openwrt working on the dwl-2100.

I can't see a dd-wrt version ever coming.

Ok, openwrt work on DWL2100! I've read a lot about OpenWRT, and did not understand very much, maybe I'm dumb.

Hi!

If only you have searched the openwrt forum...

Anyway read carefully this post and I suggest you should read all the posts in that topic (if needed twice) from the beginning on. You should focus on the redboot for the desired hw rev.

EDIT: read this entire topic from the start too!

@sash

Hi, this is nice to read!!!

In the meantime there is the new hw rev.A5 on the market:

https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=31539

and there is no working redboot loader for it, therefore I think the first step should be compiling the 'universal' microredboot for all hw revisions, don't you think?
I am ready to test - I have serial adapter @ the AP.

@Sash

1) Router-detection
- Already done:
http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/d-link/dwl-2100ap#hardware.highlights
- There is A5 rev. with MX29LV320DBTI-70G flash chip
- The most similar supported hw is DIR-300 A1, but this AP has only one LAN port

2) Micro redboot
- I don't have a j-tag so I cannot test the loader(s) and that still needs to be done for comfortable flashing form stock firmware webIF.
- Since I have flashed my DWL-2100 with normal redboot loader compiled just for my flash chip I have tried (chainloaded) all micro redboot (RAM version) that can be downloaded from your ftp server and none worked for me...

3) TESTBUILD
- kernel 2.6.30.10 works out of the box, other requires changes in toolchain
https://dev.openwrt.org/ticket/8299#comment:5
- In general I flash may DWL with files
openwrt-atheros-vmlinux.lzma
openwrt-atheros-root.squashfs
taken from:
http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/10.03.1-rc5/atheros/
