I've been running DD-WRT on my E2500 for about a month now and recently had reason to revert back to the factory firmware. Therefore, I downloaded the following, latest E2500 firmware from Linksys's website and attempted to flash it via the DD-WRT webGUI. Unfortunately I didn't realize I also needed to select "reset to defaults" from the firmware update drop-down menu at that time, and I believe that is where I went wrong.
Linksys E2500
04/27/2012
Ver.1.0.05 (Build 2)
At the moment, the router initially boots and responds at 192.168.1.1. However, after roughly 5 pings it stops replying at this address and begins replying at 172.16.254.1 (the previous DD-WRT IP scheme I was using).
Attempting to login to the web interface at 172.16.254.1 does provide a login prompt. However my username/password no longer works and neither does the default root/admin. I can still DHCP, connect to the AP, and browse the web, but I am completely locked out of the router configuration now.
I am able to TFTP images to it at boot and have loaded both the latest factory firmware as well as the DD-WRT build, but I still run into the same issue above.
I am also UNABLE to connect to the via telnet or SSH.
If anyone has any suggestions on how I may be able to regain access to the DD-WRT GUI it woudl be greatly appreciated. I'm in a real bind at the moment and am trying to avoid going out and purchasing a new router.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you might be able to provide!

I'd also like to note that I've also performed a 30-30-30 reset as well, but to no avail.

I downloaded the bin for syslink e2500 from the download page not from this forum, it looks like my router is not completely bricked as I can ping and get ttl64, but of course it is not working, I can't connect to the internet at all so I can't get to the dd wrt gui and I am stuck at this point.
Any idea what I should do at this point? should I revert back to factory setting before trying the correct bin from this forum or should I go with that right away? is there any specific steps i should be aware of?

The e2500 seems to crash randomly for certain person. Looks like the PPTP is the culprit here.
I hooked up a serial connection and captured the kernel panic if that can help.
Last lines of normal bootup:

that is great news... I look forward to seeing the code.. I got really close the other night Most of the new Asus drivers have alot of unresolved symbols that is what let me to that specific driver wl_high.ko, as it only has a few unresolved symbols.. If you want to to pm the source link I can tag/add it to my builds and roll it into the E2500/E3200.
I applaud you for figuring it out, this is indeed good news...

RT-N53 was tested by me
E2500 was tested by user @tvlz from linksysinfo.org
If you can test and give me a feedback about E3200 i will be happy.
After install tomato you have to erase nvram (administration, configuration and erase all data in nvram).
After reboot eth2 should works. If it will not works and basic, network menu will be broken, then go to advanced, mac and restore default MAC address for eth2, then save.
