My main problem is that nothing is registered on the Ethernet ports. It is as if they're broken.
I have tried resetting, hard resetting, powering off etc. but even on a standard firmware with standard settings the Ethernet ports are dead.
Sounds like it's time for a new router that isn't broken. _________________ Segment 1 XR700 10Gb LAN, 1Gb WAN ISP BS

What version of the router do you have. There is A1 to G1. Most of them have a Realtek switch.
It's a revision B1. Have worked fine for years with DD-WRT and all of a sudden (after fiddling with QoS which is again disabled) I get this strange problem.
I have tried fiddling with the VLAN-setting (/Vlan.asp) as per Googling but the settings doesn't stick after saving/applying.
I have now been able to at least get a wired connection to the router and internet through the modem. This is a major step forward.
This was achieved by doing a 30-30-30 hard reset so right now I'm on a mint 41771 std firmware.
I now have a NAS running which can be accessed by my computer so it seems that routing works between those ports.
Honestly, I don't think the router is broken - but something has happened and I think it is in the firmware. This router is perfectly capable of running DD-WRT with all the bells and whistles and satisfying results...
This has worked fine for years but suddenly broke - so I tried reformatting the JFFS partition. No luck.
My settings with regards to DNSMASQ are as follows:
Code:
Dnsmasq: Enabled
Cache DNSSEC data: Disabled
Local DNS: Enabled
No DNS Rebind: Enabled
Query DNS in Strict Order: Enabled
Add Requestor MAC to DNS Query: Disabled
RFC4039 Rapid Commit support: Disabled
Maximum Cached Entries: 1500
Also, if I add scripts in the Administration/Command section referring the JFFS partion - guess what - broken LAN/WAN ports.
Any ideas as to why this is happening all of a sudden? Defect RAM in the router? Bad settings (above)?

Good advice from Per Yngve but to add to this JFFS was changed dramatically (other compression and file systems or something like that), there are instructions to get it going again, search for them.

But I would just use an USB stick the nvram of the router wears out pretty quickly and I once bricked a router while updating with JFFS2 enabled and well see your own problems with JFFS2
I hear you both and was reaching the same conclusion - to use a USB stick.
I realized that later builds (i.e. rev. 41771) simply won't allow JFFS2 to be partitioned on internal RAM. I reckon it'll allow partitions on USB - any experiences with JFFS2/USB on later builds (later than 39715)? How big a stick do I need to get (how much does DD-WRT support)?
