I have a large house that is very long. My DSL line is at one of the first floor. I set up a dd-wrt netgear as a client bridge half-way through the house on the same floor. Everything works great. However, I need to add a 3rd router on the second floor so that the entertainment room at the opposite side of the house, upstairs, can get connectivity all while using the same SSID and subnet so that iphones/ipads and the can't-stay-stillers in my house don't drop connectivity.

I have been F'ing with this for days and have probably pulled all if not most of my hair out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar issue with mine. I had the primary router then plugged a homeplug next to it. Then I put a second home plug next to my 2nd router and turned the 2nd router into a WAP using http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless_Access_Point

I use WDS for almost exactly the same thing

I have a Main Router (Asus RT-N16) connected to the Internet

I have a Media Router (Linksys WRT310Nv1) sitting on my entertainment center

I have a MidHouse Router (Linksys WRT310Nv1) on a wall outside my kitchen.

All running WDS, the mid house router effectively is a repeater/relay because my kitchen, (fridge/microwave/etc) is between the MediaRoom and Main Router.

My Media Router services both wireless and wired components connected to my TV.

Turn on Spanning Tree.
Write down the Wireless MAC of each device

set the wireless on all of them the same
(channel/ssid/AES-psk)

go to the wds tab
enter the MAC of the other two devices into the one you are on.

Repeat for all three.

sys-info page will show the signal strength/SNR for the WDS nodes.

sometimes they need to be rebooted to start seeing the others. but it works.

I just posted a long one about getting STP to failover properly with three WDS routers
