Thanks ere109! I've been following this thread for some time now and finally decided to make an account. I have the latest version of dd wrt 24200 on my v1 4500. Thanks for all your hard work Kon. I originally was going to do just a review b/c it seems very stable and i haven't had any problem same as you ere109. However after I started messing with the OpenVPN i noticed it works great except the speed is about 1/3 of my normal. Which i assume is my router cpu? Normally I get about 30Mbps speedtest download and acutally torrent download is about 2-3Mbps download. And its the same when I use my VPN only on my computer with its software the speed doesn't change much. But when it is setup on the router the speeds plummet. Is that normal can anyone else verify? My speedtest is about 8-10Mbps and my actually torrent download is a little less than 1Mbps. Side note using Blowfish for cipher. I also noticed someone else is getting only about 1/3 of there max speed which is still 10 times faster than what i am getting. So maybe its not the CPU?

I think this all related to not kernel-mode ppp/pptp implementation. So it's CPU and userspace processes.
I also have only 10-15 mbps WAN speed if I setup PPTP WAN or VPN Client (PPTP) on router, and it's 30-50 mbps from computer itself.

p.s. L2TP more optimized for speed.

Kong recently posted that he made major stability improvements to the ARM build of 24500. I'm not sure if we'll get the same changes, and same build, but it sounded like a VERY STABLE build. I hope to see it for the WNDR4500.

I now have build 24200 on my WNDR4500. I used to get 80/35 mbps with stock and older builds, and now I get 50/35. I tried setting the et_dispatch_mode to 0; however, this did not work. Any suggestions to get my speed back up to what it should be?

After 24200 OLD ran flawlessly for two weeks, I started changing config settings, and it's booting every other day now.

Inital Settings:
Basic Setup, two "home" and one guest network.

New Settings:
NAT > QOS > Enable, Uplink 9216, Downlink 46080
NAT > UPnP-Service: Enable
NAT > UPnP-Clear: Enable
>Services-DNSMasq: Enable
>Services-Secure Shell: Enable
>Services-Syslogd: Enable
Security > Firewall-SPI: Enable
Security > Firewall-Filter Proxy
Security > Firewall-Log: Enable
Security > Firewall-Level: Medium

Does anyone see anything there that might cause system problems? Next, can someone instruct me on how to have the syslog write to the USB drive I have inserted in the router?

tsynik Thank you for the explanation! Not the answer I wanted as that now means I will be buying a new router. Ere109 turn off UPNP and save then unplug the router and plug it back in. UPNP doesn't seem to be working correctly. I had a similar problem and that was the only fix I found hope that helps.

I've been using DD-WRT for a few years, after switching from Tomato because that didn't run on my WNDR 4500. So far I am mostly happy. I used to use the Kong build, until he stopped publishing it a few months ago (http://www.desipro.de/ddwrt/K3-AC/ keeps giving 403 errors), and now I switched to the "official"(?) beta builds on ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2014/. Either builds work fine for normal usage.

But a few weeks ago I set up an IPv6 Tunnel from Hurricane Electric (https://tunnelbroker.net/) to give my network IPv6 connectivity. This too worked very well, after some minor problems at the start.

But now all my computers have a publicly route-able IP Address. And I can't firewall them because DD-WRT doesn't have a working ip6tables. Obviously, NAT is no longer a protection.

I read that it is possible to build a custom firmware that contains both a newer ip6tables and kernel support for it, but building my own firmware is something I would rather avoid. Are there any good known builds of DD-WRT for WNDR 4500 that contain full support for IPv6, including firewall?

Kong set up a basic ipv6 firewall, but not availible for your router yet.

you can set up a firewall manually in routers startup, you need to insmod ip6tables modules. after this you can make your own firewall.

just search for R7000 ipv6 in forum.

Interesting. For now that module doesn't seem to be available in the official beta builds. I hope they'll be added soon. Or maybe Kong's builds will be available once again.

Yes, the server is reachable but it only gives 403 Forbidden errors since months.

You're right, they are just not found without specifying the absolute path. The following seems to have worked:

Code:
insmod /lib/modules/3.10.40/kernel/net/ipv6/netfilter/ip6_tables.ko

there are no forbidden messages from kongs webserver. all builds for download. there WAS, since kong had changed directory structure.

It does forbid me:

Maybe it's an IP based block.
