so, I'm looking around for a new router to replace my really old linksys wrt54g that reboots constantly if wifi is enabled [so, i turned off wifi, and used another router plugged to it in wifi mode only to get wifi] ... well, googling around, i found this nifty yet suspicious website... jacobs parts... they had really cheap routers and are small form (that's great since I have small room to place my stuff) ... just wanted to see if anyone's tried them or heard of them at all? no specific info anywhere... except that their routers run dd-wrt (not listed on dd-wrt's website) .. nor do they list detailed specs anywhere.. [if you do get curious, they are on amazon at lower prices]..

I placed an order for the TopLink RT-300BK 300M Wireless N Home Router w/ DD-WRT and a TopLink 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Desktop Switch - 10/100/1000 Mbps... will give detailed specs later when it arrives.. but yeah, wanted to see if anyone here's heard of them, and if this device will become listed on the list of supported devices in the future... Wink

the website says it's a Ralink 3052 chipset, so moved it to this forum...

[ update: found the website that makes em, it's Taiwanese of course. http://tw100302869.trustpass.alibaba.com/productgrouplist-101437512/Wireless.html#products ]

So, Just got the TopLink RT-300BK 300Mbps Wireless N Home Router w/ DD-WRT Smile

Plugged it in, and it started up. Went to it's internal IP and woosh... dd-wrt was really pre-installed Smile

dug deeper, when to system stats, etc, ran a shell process via telnet, uname -an and df -h said:
Quote:
root@DD-WRT:~# uname -an
Linux DD-WRT 2.6.23.17 #966 Sat Oct 10 11:23:14 CEST 2009 mips unknown

root@DD-WRT:~# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/root 2.6M 2.6M 0 100% /

nothing out of the ordinary. so i went back to the status screen...

well.. hello! it's a re-branded re-boxed Buffalo AirStation WHR-G300N v1! [it's running Ralink 3052 @ 384 MHz, 32mb RAM, 4mb flash, even 12v input!]

anyways, I'll be testing it for a bit. hopefully it matches it's original self. ~$25 cheaper, so we'll see what happens... Smile

I do wonder if it's safe to update the firmware to 17201 (BrainSlayer's version), or the most recent release, 14896 (Router DB's recommendation), as the version that's on this router is 13064... what do you think guys? maybe i can get you more info?

How's this router working out for you?

Any update on this router yet?

Has anyone else tried one of these?

I've just purchased 2 off of Amazon. Guess I'll see what happens when I get them in a couple of days. Going to use 1 as my main wireless router, and 1 as a wireless bridge for my media server. Again, we'll see what happens...

Do either of you have any results yet?

I'm very interested to know how well it works, and what the max. TX power is.

purchased the exact same unit with build 13064

wondering if it's a v1 or v2 bin upgrade

has anyone upgraded their TopLink rebranded Buffalo yet to the latest and greatest DD-WRT?
