so, I'm looking around for a new router to replace my really old linksys wrt54g that reboots constantly if wifi is enabled [so, i turned off wifi, and used another router plugged to it in wifi mode only to get wifi] ... well, googling around, i found this nifty yet suspicious website... jacobs parts... they had really cheap routers and are small form (that's great since I have small room to place my stuff) ... just wanted to see if anyone's tried them or heard of them at all? no specific info anywhere... except that their routers run dd-wrt (not listed on dd-wrt's website) .. nor do they list detailed specs anywhere.. [if you do get curious, they are on amazon at lower prices]..
I placed an order for the TopLink RT-300BK 300M Wireless N Home Router w/ DD-WRT and a TopLink 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Desktop Switch - 10/100/1000 Mbps... will give detailed specs later when it arrives.. but yeah, wanted to see if anyone here's heard of them, and if this device will become listed on the list of supported devices in the future...
the website says it's a Ralink 3052 chipset, so moved it to this forum...
anyways, I'll be testing it for a bit. hopefully it matches it's original self. ~$25 cheaper, so we'll see what happens...
I do wonder if it's safe to update the firmware to 17201 (BrainSlayer's version), or the most recent release, 14896 (Router DB's recommendation), as the version that's on this router is 13064... what do you think guys? maybe i can get you more info?
I've just purchased 2 off of Amazon. Guess I'll see what happens when I get them in a couple of days. Going to use 1 as my main wireless router, and 1 as a wireless bridge for my media server. Again, we'll see what happens...
