I just got my E4200V2 today and it has a complete Marvell chipset.

I can confirm with 100% certainty that the E4200 V2 N900 router is MARVEL 88W8063 a/b/g/n -- chipset

I would post pictures but this is under patent security from the fcc until 1/23/12

So this means get your V 1. before the stores switch it if you want to run dd-wrt

I doubt marvel will ever be supported by dd-wrt, a sad day for me.

Thank you for your confirmation.

This disappoints me too. Will you return your v2?

Now I'm considering Asus rt-n66u.

Well, crap. I wish I would've read this thread before I ordered mine..

Ordered directly from cisco, I guess I'll be refusing delivery tomorrow.

Thanks for the infos!

Can someone upload v2 firmware? I think it is possible to sniff traffic during auto-update to get http download link from official site or just firmware code. I'm interested in extracting the firmware and modifying it.

The Marvell wireless in my Airport Extreme is the fastest I've ever tested, trumps even the best DD-WRT devices. Of course that thing sucks as a router though, I wish I could get the best of both worlds in one device, too bad.

I sure wish this was reflected in the router database. I just purchased an E4200 on the basis of other threads in the forums, and after several hours of reading.

Only now do I find that it's not even remotely supported... Confused

I also did get a E4200 v2

This sucks no DDWRT on it Sad

Anny chance this can change in the future?
It seems also a EA4500 is coming out with marvell cpu.

For now it seems we have to avoid Cisco/linksys roures, they have great specs but not able to flash with custom firmware.
I really miss a lot on those routers that ddwrt got on it.

E4200v2, EA3500 and EA4500 are all Marvell Chipsets.

Now, I know its only academic, but why can't we get something to compile for a Marvell chipset ? I have had a flick through the Wiki and the forums, but could not really find a good explaination ?

I did find this: http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,26788330

I did not show up anything on a casual google of 88W8063 in terms of datasheets and such. Is it a case of the chip manufactuerer simply not releasing any data without an NDA or only releasing a dodgy "BLOB" of kernel code ?

Any explainiation from the Gurus would be appreciated as a 1.2GHz / 128 / 128 / N900 / Gigabit / USB2 seems like a nice platform.

Cheers

You'll also need a JTAG cable, the toolchains to cross compile for that particular ARM instruction set, DD-WRT sources and a heap more knowledge than I have Shocked

Have a play and learn, but it will end in tears and maybe an addiction !

so, got the firmware, the crosscompiler and extracted the jffs2 filesystem
I created a new jffs2 image, but now i don´t know how to reintegrate the image to the firmware, i tried catíng the bootloader, kernel and jffs2 image into one file, but that doesn´t seem to work.
i can flash it to the router, but it stops at 95% and reboots...
anyone knows hot to go on from here? do i need some sort of certificate for the firmware?

ths a lot

I keep seeing "Marvell is not supported and likely never will be," but I keep wondering why? It seems like there is a good reason, but why can't anybody just explain it in the wiki with a little more substance than just, "Marvell is not supported"

I can't offer any help, and I'm really just a leech from the great minds here. As for progress that's been made by other more knowledgeable people, here is some good info in chronological order (I think)

Andrew Brampton obtained the 4200v2 firmware http://bramp.net/blog/2012/01/hacking-linksys-e4200v2-firmware/

Dan Walters showed how to hack 4200v2 for ssh access http://blog.danwalters.net/blog/2012/06/19/hacking-linksys-ea3500-firmware-for-ssh-access/

Randy Will found a couple of ways to introduce additional custom packages using a USB port root exploit http://techhappens.blog.com/2012/11/04/cisco-linksys-e4200v2-part-2/

Unfortunately, Randy Will's blog is down at the moment. It was actually one of his comments that sent me back here asking the question . . .

Seems Marvell is a fruitful endeavor since Linksys is going this route for their high end router SOCs (along with Apple)
