Hi,
after reading for days on this forum, all kind of threads and peacocks and warnings, reading up about so many bricked routers, that I think you could easily build a decent shed of those bricked ones I thought I give it a try.
I found my modem was listed [other model: 7230] and followed advise to use TFTP did a 30/30/30 before and after, I used the dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin [as I understood this model could have a 2mb flash]
The upload went fine in the first hit [thanks to the warnings about timing and being patient...]
So now I know the feeling of you dd-wrts )
Wowww, this looks really cool and so many options.
I think I have to spend another week reading up on settings and tweaks..
I have some questions and hope you forgive me if i have not [yet] found the correct thread in this gigantic forum!
My Info: Belkin-F5D7231-4P_uk 1.00.00 [ v1002uk] with Firmware DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/07/10) micro build 14896
Questions:
In the status tab it shows as Router Model: Belkin F5D7230-4v1444, can I change this in the correct model: Belkin-F5D7231-4P if yes, how???
I understand that now the router has the dd-wrt on board I have to use the Firmware upgrade under the Administration Tab, but on other pages I read, for Belkin use the TFTP method!!! confused
The text what makes me a bit unsure is about how to proceed, do I need to put the latest version of dd-wrt on it or do I have it right now? is my router hving 2 or 4mb? I know it has 16mb memory, but no clue how huge the flash is.
As this Belkin router comes in several versions.
If you have a 4 MB model, you can reflash the router with the full version generic firmware from within the routers web interface after dd-wrt is installed.

Thanks very much for your reply, I have entered the commands to change the name, it comes up with nvram lock, waiting... I waited 2 cups of coffee!!! but can't afford to wait any longer cause I already drink to much coffee
Looking around I found a solution as follow, login with telnet issue the command erase nvram, power off, power on, login again and issue the name change commands again. So, I did, but still same error and of course all other settings vanhised [lol]
Any suggestions?
Thanks for the link to the supported hardware, I must have overlooked my modem to find out it had indeed 4MB flash. Would you mind to help me a bit further because it is not clear to me in how to get the latest 4MB flash image for this modem? Or do I have already the latest version possible?
In the supported database 2 images are coming up:
dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin
dd-wrt.v24_micro_olsrd_generic.bin
but both seems to be the micro version [not sure what olsrd means either]

Does the router remember any user settings/configs after a reboot or is it only the name setting that doesn't take? _________________ Kernel panic: Aiee, killing interrupt handler!
You'll have to open the router to find out if it has 2MB or 4MB of flash, Belkin usually throws in a different kind of router board when they can't get more of the original type.
A bit of googling and reading openwrt and dd-wrt forum threads tells that it can have either of these flash sizes..
The flash chip usually have a self-adhesive label stuck onto it, just peel it off and read the numbers on the chip.
16 or 160 = 2MB, 32 or 320 = 4MB (example: 29LV320B) _________________ Kernel panic: Aiee, killing interrupt handler!
ok, got the 2 screws out of bottom, but find it difficult to get it open, do you perhaps know of disassemble this router? Trying to google but no good result.
The router is 8-9 years old and the USB port is USB1.1 with a mediocre rate of 12Mbps so can't be used for much else than USB printer.
If you don't plan to use the USB port then choose a std-generic build. _________________ Kernel panic: Aiee, killing interrupt handler!
Thank you ever so much for your help, much appreciated!!!
Ok, just to be sure, I went to here: Path: Downloads › stable › dd-wrt.v24 SP1 › Consumer › Broadcom Generic
and downloaded the: dd-wrt.v24_std_generic.bin
30/30/30
TFTP
30/30/30
CRAP!!!
I tried in the last 2 days 3 different images, had a hard time to get the modem revived back to life and so far no good result. I have read all threads with my modem type, most of them are old and none seems to be a success. Reading up I understand that this is a pretty common problem, the database seems to have wrong images attached to this type of modem or give to show the SIEMENS SE505v2 v24-sp2 08/07/10 micro build 14896.... leaving me with very funny mac address assigned 00:90:96:00:00:00 whilst my modem should have different ones!
Anyone out there who can shine some light on this?
I am willing to give a helping hand to get the right image attached to the DB for this router.
