Hello all,

Primary router : 3801HGV (pace/ATT 2wire)
Secondary router: Dual band router TPLINK TL-WDR3600 v1 (Atheros)

Flashed WDR3600 with
DD-WRT v24-sp2 (03/25/13) std
(SVN revision 21061)

I setup repeater-bridge following http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Repeater_Bridge

I was able to connect to virtual ap, and get internet connection.
But not able to access NAS on the same subnet.

Primary router : 192.168.1.254
Secondary router: 192.168.1.73

Router Name DD-WRT
Router Model TPLINK TL-WDR3600 v1
LAN MAC 10:FE:ED:40:96:A5
WAN MAC 10:FE:ED:40:96:A6
Wireless MAC 12:FE:ED:40:96:A7
WAN IP Disabled
LAN IP 192.168.1.9

Can anyone help?

I am having a similar issue as well. I have a wifi router/modem(cisco DPC-3825) acting as DHCP with my media server hard wired

gateway: 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP = enabled

server ip: 192.168.0.50
gateway: 192.168.0.1
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

upstairs I have a D-link DIR615 running DD-WRT v24-sp2 (03/25/13) std.

I have set this up as a wifi client bridge.

IP: 192.168.0.3
gateway: 192.168.0.1
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP = Disabled

xbox360
IP: 192.168.0.10
gateway: 192.168.0.1
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

I can access the internet on all devices both wired and wireless as well as access my media server on all android devices as well as all my win7x64 machines.

However when I try to connect to my server with my xbox360 through the bridge it never sees it.

All other network tests on xbox360 pass. I can see my "laptop" connected wirelessly to the bridge when I scan for pc on the 360.

My laptop connecting through the bridge can see all my computers as well as 360.

If I connect my 360 directly to the gateway that I'm bridging via wifi that has the server hard wired I can see and connect to the server.

I am totally stumped by this one.

Please find my post (msantos2007) on the following:

Please mind, for your main router, "Static DNS 1" (primary) should be your Router IP and the same IP is for your Client Bridge on "Local DNS" session.

Your LAN IP should be 192.168.1.73 (Setup/Basic Setup/Network Setup/Local IP Address).

Also: Please upgrade to build 22118 (07-24-2013-r22118):

Only for WDR3600:

Hello msantos2007,
Spot on, thank you for helping out.

I'm able to access the NAS now, from secondary router.
And I also flashed to (SVN revision 22118)

I have follow up question.
Now, I'm able to connect to NAS from secondary router thru WIFI. But the speed of transferring files from secondary router is 1/10 th of the speed of primary router 3801HGV. (222 kb/s versue 2.5Mb/s)
I was disappointed, I was hoping TL-WDR3600+DD-WRT will be speedier.

Also, TL-WDR3600 is dual band, and 2.4GHz band is mapped to 3801HGV 2.4GHz band.
But TL-WDR3600 5.4GHz band , not sure if it's mapped.

Here's my setting, hope you can give advice on tuning to make transferring file faster.

Code:
Interface eth0 (2.4GHz Band)
RadioRadio is On
ModeClient Bridge
NetworkMixed
SSID 2WIRE445
Channel8 (2447 MHz)
TX Power20 dBm
Rate24 Mb/s

Interface ath0.1 (Virtual 2.4GHz Band)
RadioRadio is On
ModeAP
NetworkMixed
SSID 24dd-wrt_vap
Channel8 (2447 MHz)
TX Power20 dBm
Rate144.444 Mb/s

Interface eth0 (5.4GHz Band)
RadioRadio is On
ModeClient Bridge
NetworkNA-Mixed
SSID 2WIRE445
Channel40 (5200 MHz)
TX Power14 dBm
RateAuto

Interface (Virtual 5.4GHz Band)
RadioRadio is On
ModeAP
NetworkNA-Mixed
SSID 54dd-wrt_vap
Channel40 (5200 MHz)
TX Power15 dBm
Rate144.444 Mb/s

Thanks again

I'm afraid to tell I don't think there is an optimum setting that will help you out as long as your network is based on a G-router (3801HGV).

Here home, I quit using ISP's WiFi Router setting it as Bridge only, turning off WiFi and wiring it to a WDR3600 (router PPPoE). Then, a second WDR3600 is set as Client Bridge connected, through 5GHz (Ath1 - less interference and congestion), to the first, leaving the 2.4GHz bandwith free for other devices.

Of course, it doesn't justify having the 1/10th performance as you're experiencing, but I see there are many variables that might explain a poor performance.

I suggest you running performance tests incrementally, adding devices on every loop, in order to identify bottlenecks. I took days to get an acceptable performance.

Best Regards, Marcelo.

Hi Marcelo,
I'll use 3801HGV as bridge, turn off the wireless, and set ppope to TL-WDR3600.

3801HGV:
Turn off wifi:
Setting>LAN:
Wireless Interface: Disabled
SSId Broadcast: Disabled

Turn as bridge:
Wiring: 3801HGV LAN port to WDR3600 (blue) Internet port??

What about setting PPPoE on WDR3600?
All the eternet device will be connected to LAN port WDR3600?

Seems you have experience setting this up before, I'm asking some advice to get started.

Thank you Marcelo

I could to turn ISP's WiFi router to Bridge thanks a link on Internet.

Every ISP has its own setting, so you need to do some search or contact your ISP. Remember to backup your ISP router settings before messing with it.

On the WDR3600 side, it is quite simple:

- Go to Setup/Basic Setup/WAN Setup;
- Under WAN Connection Type/Connection Type, choose PPPoE;
- Set username and password as the same used on ISP's router;
- Reboot.

Hello Marcelo,
Thanks for the advice.

I found the forum to turn / simulate 3801HGV into bridge mode.
http://forums.att.com/t5/Residential-Gateway/U-verse-for-BUSINESS-2Wire-3600HGV-bridge-mode-or-another-AT-amp/m-p/2707755#M182
I don't see any way to set 3801HGV as tru bridge mode, where you can put PPPoe on second router.

But thru trial, I found what works for me below.

My goal is simple, turn 3801HGV into bridge, and set TP-LINK into internal(internal router) and still able to look NAS in the same subnet.

This is what works for me:

    Wiring: 3801HGV LAN > TP-LINK WDR3600 LAN
    Basic Set TP-LINK:

      WAN setup: Automatic Configuration DHCP
Disble Network Address Server Settings (DHCP)
      Reboot TP-LINK
Note: I kept ddwrt default Local IP 192.168.1.1

3801HGV assigns ip address to TP-LINK and TP-LINK can access internet now, without additional setting on 3801HGV DmzPlus mode.

Ad hoc test on the transfer file rate:
On 3801HGV wifi: 2.5Mb/s
On WDR3600 wifi: 8Mb/s (improvement..)

I also power down all my routers at night, and I've tested 3801HGV and TP-LINK were able to work next day, which is a big big plus.

Now, I have dd-wrt on TP-LINK, I can put some app (DLNA, torrent client etc) on USB port.
Thanks Marcelo

If you has good advice on setting the better range of wifi?

I read http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=160838&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=360
The 2.4GHz wifi is best at Channel 9.
But not sure if you can adjust Tx power or antenna gain?

Thanks

I have tried the static routing as suggested and no matter what the Xbox360 will not see my Media hosting PC.

It will see my laptop but only if connected to the same dlink dir615 with dd-wrt acting as the repeater.

And now for the really messed up part..... it wont even see my pc if connected wirelessly to the same router as my Media PC is directly hardwired to, which it used to.

I have wasted a week trying to figure this out.

I could use some help, I can supply a network map with all IP and subnet information.

I found the link http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Atheros/ath_wireless_settings#TX_Power very useful. Especially (TX & RX Antenna Chains) which make a big differences on file transmission rate.

And combined with the wifi analyzer @ Android, to get most of your wifi - setting

Thanks
