I recently successfully installed DD-WRT v23 sp3 micro on a WRT54G v6 and have been working through setting it up as a wireless bridge with another WRT54G v8 (stock firmware). Things went great as I followed a guide step by step and I disabled DHCP and whatnot, set the ip to an ip out of the master router's range, set it up as a client-bridge, detected my primary wireless network, saved and restarted the new wireless bridge.

When the router came back up it the computer wired into it waited for an above-average time for an IP, and was dealt 169.254.254.209 and could not connect to the internet. I figured I did something wrong so I tried to access http://192.168.1.50 (the ip I set to the bridge) only to find I couldn't get in. I used an ip range pinger and found that there's nothing to ping inbetween 192.168.1.1-192.168.200 as well as betwen 169.254.254.200-169.254.254.215. Where to go from here?

the primary router, the v8, has the DHCP set to enable, yes. the v6 doesn't, as the guide said to turn it off.

You might want to reset it and start from the beginning? Anyhow, did you try connecting to it at the default - 192.168.1.1 - address?

yea, i tried 192.168.1.1.

forgive my ignorance, but hitting the rest button will reset the router to factory defaults?

If you hit the reset for 30 seconds, it will go to the native state of the firmware you have loaded, not the original factory settings of the router.

Do you not get any connection status from either the wireless or the ethernet connection. Sometimes when things screw up, you will get one but not the other. Can you see anything with ipconfig /all? (or on the networks page of a Mac?)

The hard reset got me back in. Let me try this again and I'm sure I'll be back here whining later tonight.

okay, so that seemed to work and i didn't lose the IP this time. the only thing that's broken is i can't seem to get a connection to the internet. i can see all the other computers on the V8 router (i'm on the V6), and they all have internet, but i don't. any clues? is there something i have to do with my machine behind the bridge?

Please check for DNS on your PC...that's work or not? if can get reply from your main ap but you can't browse the internet, check the DNS. If the DHCP Server is enable at your main router, maybe the DNSMasq not work properly .

the guide i followed was the one in the wiki, here. I followed the second part step by step and was able to connect to the primary router. The computer plugged into the bridge is able to see all other computers on the network, both on the bridge and on the primary router, and it's able to connect to the primary router web interface as well as the bridge. When I run an Ipconfig /all, this is what I get:

Host Name: Terminator
Primary DNS Suffix: (nothing)
Node Type: Unknown
IP Routing Enabled: No
WINS Proxy Enabled: No

Connection specific DNS Suffix: (nothing_
Description: corega PCI-GT
physical Address: 00-08-54-blah blah
DHCP Enabled: No
Ip Address: 192.168.1.99
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

Was there something I missed that I needed to set up on the primary router or on the client computers behind the bridge?

please check DNS IP and DNSMasq in your primary router. That's your PC get ip from primary router but seem no have dns ip from your primary router.

Primary router is a WRT54G V8, can't install DD-WRT on it, so I think DNSMasq is out. i'll check into the DNS IP though.
