I happen to have a WRV54G and a WRT54Gv2 and would like to be able to connect to the serial interface on them. I'm new to this so I want to be sure I get the right thing(s).

This is mostly for the WRV54G as it refuses telnet connections (it used to on firmware ver 2.09 and older...firmware for this is impossible to find).

What kind of USB to TTL(right?)converter will I need? I prefer a USB one as there's only one computer in the house that actually has a serial COM port.

I've been looking at these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-2-0-UART-TTL-6PIN-Connector-Module-Serial-Converter-CP2102-New-/350499583299?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item519b673543

http://www.ebay.com/itm/new-PL2303-USB-RS232-TTL-Converter-Adapter-Module-cable-/180807563896?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a18f87a78

A COM version:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/RS232-TTL-Converter-Module-Serial-Board-MAX232CPE-Transfer-Chip-w-Cable-/140710905424?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20c3060650

Would any of these work?

For reference, the pin-out in the WRV is as such:

Code:
1:   TX  |  2:  +3.3V
3:   not used   |  4:  +3.3V
5:   not used   |  6:  GND
7:   RX  |  8:  GND
9:   not used   |  10:  not used

Once I figure this out, I'll grab some pin headers to soldier in.

I checked the first 3 items - all of them are supposed to work. The one with PL2303 chip is almost identical to the one that I built myself. Just make sure you use 3.3 volt signals with your router, not the 5V line.

You can also use an old cell phone data cable - like Nokia or Siemens - plenty of info on this on the net.
