Hello Everyone,

I've hit a roadblock on "software".. I cannot get the USB 8GB Flash Stick to mount.

I am using a LinkSys WRT600N flashed with DD-WRT v24sp2 Mega 14929. I've spent the last 10 days familiarizing myself with the GUI, settings and setup. I like the DD-WRT and the WRT600N runs "wonderful".

I'd like to get it set up with Asterisk so I can have VOIP/SIP service from the home.

I followed the OptWare, the Right Way instructions, I read/followed the How to - Format and Partition External Storage Device instructions. I downloaded GParted, formated the "PNY" Brand, 8MB Flash Stick (PNY USB 2.0FD/USB) to..

OptWare - 1024MiB
Swapfile - 512MiB
Data - Remaining space 6.5Gb +/-

I also formatted the partitions to EXT2 since the directions read...

if using any flash-based media (SD, Thumb drives, SSD etc., the EXT2 filesystem format is advised due to the fact that EXT3 uses Journaling

I've installed the 8GB USB Flash-Stick into the USB slot, and followed the directions as followed...

1) In the Disk Mount Point drop-down menu, mount to /opt

2) From the DD-WRT web GUI screen, click on Save Settings, then Apply Settings 3. If everything was done correctly, this should appear on your Services -> USB Tab:

etc..

I've tried re-saving, re-setting.. reboot the router..

and it still reads..

Disk Info
Not available

Eventually, I want to be able to use a 3Com® 3108 Wireless Phone (3C10408A) clam-shell, SIP phone, and Asterisk loaded onto the router.

I'll be the first one to admit that I know very little about 1) Linux, 2) Asterisk.

I am more familiar with DOS & Windows. I've been able to navigate the Linux "formatting" learning the code commands as I go along.

Can anyone help?

thank you!!

Sounds about right to me. Have you executed "mount" at the command prompt? That might fix it.

Well Guys,

Here's the update...

It's 3:00PM here and I have worked on this straight through since last night at 10:00PM; a total of 17 hours... I finally got it "WORKING" and the flash drive is showing as "MOUNTED".. I'll explain what I did and hopefully, my obstacle will assist others with the same LinkSys WRT600N flashed with DD-WRT v24sp2 Mega 14929, combination.

1) I decided to try a different USB FLASH DRIVE. Initially, the one I used was a 8MB Flash Stick (PNY USB 2.0FD/USB). I just happened to have a spare USB Flash Stick/Drive in my desk a "KINGSTON" 2GB USB Flash Drive that I have not used in a while. I initially used it on my laptop but swapped it out for the "larger" 8GB USB Flash Stick because I wanted more storage space. Regardless, I decided to start fresh and give it a try with the "KINGSTON" 2GB USB Flash Drive.

2) I Formatted the "KINGSTON" 2GB USB Flash Drive "per instructions" from the procedure.

Since the instructions were made on a 2GB Drive, coincidentally, as a replacement I happened to have a 2GB drive that I could use.

I plugged the USB Flash Drive in, made sure the setting were correct in DD-WRT, <clicked> "/opt", <clicked> "save", <clicked> "apply settings", then unplugged the WRT600N, <tapped> the "reset" once (less than 5 seconds!!), plugged the router back in and I let it boot..

I logged into the GUI and "VOILA"!! It's there...

Disk Info
--- /dev/discs/disc0/disc
Block device, size 1.866 GiB (2003828736 bytes)

Status: Mounted on /opt

3) I test "reformatted" the 8MB Flash Stick (PNY USB 2.0FD/USB) to duplicate the "EXACT" same setting partitions of the working "KINGSTON" 2GB USB Flash Drive replacement.

Even thought the "PNY" flash-drive had 8GB capacity, I reformatted it as "2GB", identical to my "KNOWN" working "Kingston" 2GB Flash-drive. I left the remaining 6GB floating out in "LA-LA" Land as "unused" space. Perfectly fine; asll well & good!!

Well, you guessed it.. I plugged the reformatted the PNY brand again into the WRT600N, and again...again.. "NOT MOUNTING, NOT WORKING"

Guys.. My experience on this one is that PNY just does not load!! I don't know; I don't care. Draw your own conclusions...

Also, I've purchased a second WRT600N having decided that I really do need a spare. IF I am going to be playing with this stuff, I better have a working unit set back that I can swap out when I mess up my router's firmware.

My initial goal is to get the WRT600N loaded with Asterisk, and set up a working WiFi phone that interfaces with the Routers Wireless LAN.

SO.. presently, I have a "mounted" USB FLASH DRIVE.. (yawn).

Next; "Asterisk".. I hope I didn't miss something. I'm back to the forum to do more reading to see what I need to do next...

Shocked

thank you!!

Greetings Pamela..

I just now found your message/inquiry.

I wish I could help you but I know very little about Apple Computers.

Best Wishes.
