Thanks for the clarification Murrkf, that's what I meant but it got out wrong (English is my third language...)

I wanted to write:
...but would it be more accurate to say that SOME builds (more specifically: those under 16785) don't have the fail safe...

I think it is time to close this thread!

To summarize:
1- Flash the E3000 Trailed Initial Flash Build, as explained in steps 1-10 of the wiki

2- It is suggested not going farther than build 18000, for now. Following steps 11 to 19 in the wiki:
a) Flash dd-wrt.v24-18000_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e3000.bin
followed by:
b) Flash dd-wrt.v24-18000_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega-nv60k.bin

which can both be found at:
ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2011/12-12-11-r18000/broadcom_K26

Note: Finally, never use the *nv64k.bin build, it is for other routers (ex.: netgear WNDR4000).
