Temporarily changed my router to "wireless G only" to get the wifi connection to be stable. Was using GN originally.

Wired connections are always okay.

Here is a very basic how-to for this process.

After a few reboots, back to GN mode and it seems to work fine.

+1 for the instructions on the spiceworks.com page.

is there another way of finding hardware version without looking at the bottom of my router.. my router is already affixed to the wall with adhesive..

or

Can I try installing both firmware version 1 and 2 without bricking my router?

that isn't a good idea. just take it off and check

I can't find a wiki page for this router, so is there an install guide somewhere?

does dd-wrt allow you to choose 40mhz? the linksys firmware doesn't even let me choose between aes and tkip and the auto mode is always at 20mhz

Hi, im Macky from Philippines. I just wanna ask for help about my Linksys E1200V2 which i bought last month brand new, I upgraded its firmware to DD-WRT firmware and it works fine for almost a month already until last thursday. I noticed a drastic drop in wifi signal strength. Before it happened, my laptop HP Probook 4430s with Atheros Wifi driver can detect a full bar or Excellent signal even on my room, closed door, 1 floor apart from the linksys router. But now, my Laptop cannot even detect a 2-bar signal, always a poor 1-bar signal in my room. And also, i noticed that if i move about 3 meters away from the router, the signal drops from 5-bar to 4-bar after a few seconds. What could be the problem?

I already tried:

Reinstall Wireless LAN on my Laptop
Turn off and turn the router on again

My Setup is on the attachment.

I just put in 99999 in key renewal interval even though i dont know that does it mean, please tell me if there's something wrong.

I encircled "Active IP Connections " because i wonder why i got 93, please help me understand this too, please.

Thanks in advance.

Putting router in Mixed mode or any mode that broadcasts wireless N signal seems to make the wireless internet unusable. Taking internet speeds from around 17Mb/s to around 0.30Mb/s. Any way to fix this?

Edit: I should also mention I have the E1200 V1

Has this been fixed in any of the newer builds?

Hi, I just installed dd-wrt for the first time on my linksys e1200v1 using the mini bin at the link provided. Everything worked great, thanks.

I really would like to install openvpn client on my router (that's the whole reason I did this). I understand my router has only 4MB of memory though... Is it possible for me to install one of these on my router:

dd-wrt.v24-18946_NEWD-2_K2.6_openvpn_small-nv60k.bin binary 3.37 MB 2012-04-07
dd-wrt.v24-18946_NEWD-2_K2.6_openvpn_small-nv64k.bin binary 3.37 MB 2012-04-07
dd-wrt.v24-18946_NEWD-2_K2.6_openvpn_small.bin binary 3.37 MB 2012-04-07

Also, if it is, which one would I install? Any special procedure needed to go from mini to one of these?

(As I understand it, this one won't work because it's too big for my router's little brain:
dd-wrt.v24-18946_NEWD-2_K2.6_openvpn.bin binary 4.16 MB 2012-04-07)

Thanks for the help!

Yes. According to the sticky at http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=156851 , E1200V1 uses 64KB nvram so use dd-wrt.v24-18946_NEWD-2_K2.6_openvpn_small-nv64k.bin binary 3.37 MB 2012-04-07

good luck
