So I just did a firmware install of DD-WRT v24-21676 mini, going from from untouched 1.0.0 firmware, on my Revision 1 E1200 router.
Everything went off without a hitch. I was then able to access the DD-WRT control panel from the default 192.168.1.1. Too bad every time, it demands I change my password (see image 1)! Then when I click on 'change password', it sends me to this page (see picture two).

Then when I try to click on any of the tabs, say wireless, it send me back to the change password page, without fail.

Messing around for a while with multiple computers, connection types, and hard resets, FINALLY saw me past this error, and I was able to set up my E1200 for bridging/repeating like I wanted, but then, the next time I tried to logging on to the router config page (192.168.1.1), everything had been reset, and it is asking for me to set a new password again.

Sporadically, the E1200 will stop working altogether as well, and a hard reset is required for local network OR internet connectivity.

I have searched high and low for anybody else who has ever had these problems. At this point I am tearing my hair out!

E1200v2: I worked on this router all last weekend trying to upgrade to the latest k3 build. I found the latest k26 builds had no tx power and hence no wifi. My upgrade process had numerous erase nvrams and 30-30-30s. This got me to a useable k3 build with wifi, ALTHOUGH, within in a few hours the router started rebooting randomly then every 15 minutes or so.

Going back to...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I have a Version 1 E1200 router, installing the recommended 'big' version would be full on disastrous, since it does not have enough space (4mb rather than 8mb). I guess I'll look for another newer 'mini' to try, other than the recommended.

I figured it out. You have to choose the right username & password combination at the password change screen. Now I just have to get this 'stable build' to work.

You are correct. I updated the E1200 Wiki.
This is the wrong Topic for v1. Correct topic is here.

Hello all,

I am using e1200 and need some information. Maybe you know that my country just banned some of social media sites (twitter, youtube etc.) and start to hijack google and opendns servers.

So is there any way to use dnscrypt or any secured dns solution in e1200 to prevent this hijack attempts. If I am using openvpn client in e1200 to connect my vpn server, will my dns queries route to vpn too?

Thanks for info!

Hello all,

I'd like to ask two questions about the Linksys E1200v2:

1st: The wiki page mentiones build 21676 big as "good build for this device" but at the same time warns regarding the size of builds 19519 and later in the big and mega variants ... the size of the file is 7.840.768 Bytes (just a bit less than the 8 MB flash) - am I on the safe side flashing or do I risk to brick the box.

2nd: As Heart Bleed is fixed in builds 23882 or higher and I plan on using OpenVPN does anyone of you already know if build dd-wrt.v24-23838_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-nv64k can safely be used?

Any input is heavily appreciated.

1) The mega build should work perfectly fine with your E1200. The only size issue I have seen was for a few experimental K3X. builds that were obviously too big for their routers.

1) Any build newer than the one in the wiki is considered beta. You may get some help, but you will receive no sympathy if things go awry.

I have tried 6 ways to Sunday to get a newer build for this router. Cannot get wifi or a consistent non rebooting build after the below recommended build. I will stick with this until something more stable comes along....

pfuller88 can you list the builds and their links that you have tried so that I can try some other builds?

Could not get Repeater Bridge to work w/ Build 23919. Connects the first time I set it up but when the machine resets it does not reconnect to the home router. Reverted back to Build 21676.
