I have tried 6 ways to Sunday to get a newer build for this router. Cannot get wifi or a consistent non rebooting build after the below recommended build. I will stick with this until something more stable comes along....
1. Linksys E1200v2 - DD-WRT Wiki
"Good build for this device is 21676 big"
I'm currently testing Kong 22000+ (includes fix for Heartbleed vulnerability) on the E1200v2, and initial results are good.
UPDATE: Kong 22000+ is looking good with 2+ days of solid uptime.
Changed TX Power to 50 mW (from the default of 40 mW),
which seemed to significantly boost transmit speed. _________________ Hope that helps,

I flashed my E1200 with
(1) dd-wrt.v24-21676_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e1200v2
then upgraded with
(2) dd-wrt.v24-21676_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-nv64k
working flawless now.
any idea on how to increase the wifi range.
I changed the TX power to 150. with no luck.
thanks all for the links provided in this page.

21676 Big should not be used because it contains the Heartbleed vulnerability.
If you don't need additional features, use the Mini build, which does not have the Heartbleed vulnerability.
Otherwise use Kong 22000+, which is patched to remove the Heartbleed vulnerability, and has been working well.
If you have difficulty flashing the KingKong version, try the DLNA or VPN version.

You can safely push E1200 transmit power up to 50-60 mW, but more than that and you risk frying it,
and more transmit power may increase transmit speed, but it won't improve range, which is limited by the antennas.
For significantly better range you need significantly better antennas. _________________ Hope that helps,

JNavas,
As some days have passed now since you flashed the Kong 22000+, can you provide an update?
Are there any significant issues (random reboots, main features not functioning) worth mentioning?
My two E1200v2 (1 x Router/WAP, 1 x WAP) are currently running 21676 Big and I am looking for a way to update (for obvious reasons). The only thing I cannot sacrifice is reliability.
Also, a more generic questions: if a 30/30/30 is performed, can I go straight from 21676 big to Kong? Or is there any transition flash that needs to be considered?

Kong 22000+ has been solid and fast on the E1200v2 for the 3 days since I installed it.
Looks like it's at least as good as 21676, and arguably better, since it has fixes not in 21676.
I was unable to flash the KingKong build on the WNDR4000, so with the E1200v2 I went straight to
usb-ftp-samba3-dlna-nv64k-broadcom.bin by Web upgrade from 21676 Mini with 30-30-30 reset. _________________ Hope that helps,

I very much appreciate the timely feedback.
I looked at Kong's website but could not find any type of version comparison. Going through the blog I see that their distribution has a lot of interesting features (for the lazy admin) which make life easier. Can you report on anything that stood out to you and is worth mentioning in terms of features / usability?
Due to the size of the distributions (7.2MB) I assume that JFFS enabling (i.e. actually using it) is still out of the question on the E1200v2? I wish I could have a NoCatSplash working, but with "only" 8MB flash I shot myself in the foot.

When used on routers with USB ports, I like FTP, Samba, and DLNA.
(My practice is to use the same SVN on the different routers I deploy.) _________________ Hope that helps,

Hello all new here I have been reading through the forum for the past 4 days. I found some information about DHCP but it was related to earlier builds the I used.
I have an E1200 V1
Flashed form Factory to DD-WRT V24-sp2 (05/27/13) mini - build 21676.
I followed the installation instructions waiting the full amounts of time, did the 30 30 30 reset when required. I can get into the DD-WRT manage page but only but setting static IP on my laptop.
I can see the wireless portion for it. I named it the same as my main with a 1 on it. it authenticates, but wont pull and IP.
So what have I done wrong? Thanks
I ultimately want o use it in bridge/repeater mode for the are in my house that is not reached by my cable modem wireless router.

I'm guessing your "cable modem wireless router" is an Arris TG862. If so, it's a piece of junk.
If you're not using cable for phone (and you shouldn't be), then your best bet is to replace the "cable modem wireless router" with a good cable modem (e.g., Motorola SURFboard) and a good wireless router.
Since range is an issue, you ought to get a better wireless router than the E1200 (which has poor antennas and radio), something like the Netgear WNDR3700v3, which performs very well with DD-WRT.
If you then still have a range issue, do your best to avoid wireless repeating, which greatly cuts performance. If you can't run Ethernet cable, then your best bet is probably powerline networking with an AV500 "nano" kit like the TP-LINK TL-PA4010KIT. You could then use the E1200 as a remote wireless access point.
p.s. If you insist on using your E1200 as a repeater bridge, here's the recipe: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Repeater_Bridge _________________ Hope that helps,

Thanks for the quick response. I had this thing laying around and it isn't crucial to make it work. Just attempting to add some coverage without added cost of buying anything.
I failed in my initial post and I apologize for that. I have TDS telecom internet/phone/tv. So fiber right to my house. The Modem/Allinone they use is a Actiontec V1000H. so no option for switching it out.

You could disable Actiontec wireless, and connect your own wireless router to the Actiontec configured as a wireless access point. The Actiontec would still be routing, but you would have better wireless. _________________ Hope that helps,
