There are two similar buttons on the router back. One for reset and one for turning wifi on or off. The one that has to reset the device does nothing. The other that is supposed to turn on or off wifi works as reset.

USB storage is fixed internally by developers and the fix will officially arrive with next beta.

Thank you for the reply Smile I'm aware of those two buttons, but none of them works right now. When I was using the original firmware, they were working, but now they simply won't do anything.

Maybe I should try to re-flash with older firmware? Well, it's not like I need those buttons, so I'm rather going to wait for the new release.

Btw. Sorry for my ignorance, but I have a question. Is there some limit to how many times can be the flash memory erased? Like 100 times is the maximum?

Also sorry for that poor English level of mine. Surprised

Btw, I just noticed that there is a remote access to the web interface allowed by default. It also shows "Info Site" by default. Isn't that a security problem?

When you try to disable "Allow Any Remote IP", it won't let you. You have to insert some IP address, as it won't accept 0.0.0.0, which should disable this feature completely. And even when you enter for example 1.1.1.1, you can still connect remotely with any IP address, as it won't disable anything.

You can disable Info Site, on [Administration]/[Management] tab.
Also you can protect this site with password by checking "Info Site Password Protection" on the same tab.

Yup, I know, but still, I would like to disable that remote access for security reasons.

Also, it seems that port forwarding isn't working. I'm running a simple web server, and I've tried to set port forwarding on port 80, but it won't forward any packets. Changing ports or disabling firewall won't help. But it worked yesterday on original firmware.

I'm not sure about that Source Net field, so I left it blank. Is that okay? Confused

Edit: Oops, now the port forwarding works! And I only restarted the router through the web interface! Buggy bug Twisted Evil

Just flashed, found some bugs:
- CPU keep loading at 20-30% even the router is idle.
- VPN services is not working, error 619.

Using the same PC and the same wireless settings (i.e. Same channel, password length & type)
go to speedtest.net and choose the closest server

Test result:
DD-WRT Firmware: (auto bandwidth, forget to choose)
Down(Mbps) Up(Mbps) Ping (ms)
25.55 37.74 4
24.34 39.08 4
24.87 37.50 4

TP-Link Original Firmware (bandwidth: 20Mhz):
Down(Mbps) Up(Mbps) Ping (ms)
26.51 55.62 6
27.23 55.08 6
27.89 53.75 6

TP-Link Original Firmware (bandwidth: 40Mhz):
Down(Mbps) Up(Mbps) Ping (ms)
32.86 56.47 5
30.80 56.46 6
29.43 55.42 6

sad to say the DD-WRT one is (a bit) slower.. Sad

@Evaldino: Don't buy this router. The dd-wrt firmware is pretty buggy right now, and the USB isn't working correctly too.

Also, last version was released a month ago, so it's not like it's going to be fixed any soon. Rolling Eyes

Just installed the latest firmware (ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2012/07-20-12-r19519/tplink_tl-wr842ndv1/). USB working fine. I have one router set up for client mode, which is working fine as well.

Hi, I´ve installed last build into WR842ND, but it has no NoCatSplash integrated. I expected 8MB of flash allows to do this.

Will be this service included in any build in future? Or which router (now on the market) can I use for this hotspot purposes at this time? WR1043? Thank you.

Is there any new information on the high cpu usage problem? CPU is almost always at 50% usage, even if you disable pretty much everything...Any thoughts on this?

BTW, how hard is it to get wireless clients to connect to a VAP created on a Client Wireless Mode installation? Has anyone else had any problems with this? Has anyone solved this already? The guides on the dd-wrt wiki do not provide extra help on this subject, so...please, anyone, if you know something, I'd pretty much appreciate your help! Very Happy

According to my last post:
- CPU keep loading at 20-30% even the router is idle.
- VPN services is not working, error 619.

After flashing the 07-20-12-r19519, VPN services problem get fixed Very Happy
now VPN can be connected now
but CPU problem is getting worst...
I use config the same settings with r19519 but now it is loading at 20-30% when it is idle.

USB mount and print server didn't test since I am an linux noob Laughing
hope someone else can test and report if it is work now...and make tutorial? (NTFS support? or FAT32 only?)

Anyway thanks for your hard works Very Happy

Any word on the high cpu usage problem yet for the TL-WR842ND V1? I believe UPNP could be the culprit...

As I suspected, builds 19342 and 19519 are NOT working with Wireless Repeater/Bridge mode. Client mode is working on all builds, and USB is working since 19519.

Wireless Repeater/Bridge mode (using Client + Virtual AP, as per the wiki explanation) IS in fact working, but only on build 19327, however virtual AP is very unstable, and the client connection is far from acceptable. Very high latency times, connection to the internet goes down intermittently, and even access to the router administration webpage breaks down, forcing a reboot.

I strongly believe that all the developers would, in fact, benefit greatly if NO additional features were added, and wireless bridging + USB could be deployed via a simple tutorial. Browsing the forums I have yet to find an easy way to create a wireless bridge (on atheros-based equipments), or even create a simple USB share/FTP access.

I also believe that, just as I can, other users in the same situation will volunteer some of their time to collaborate on the creation of a proper tutorial, that can be easily updated. Maybe one of the developers could shift some of his spare time to overview this endeavour...

I will continue to evaluate the builds that become available that are compatible with all my routers, and will be posting all the results.
