Unfortunately, we still don't know if it's a software or hardware issue or both.
Sure we do. When, under idle conditions, some releases stay up for days and more recent releases reboot within hours, that's a software problem. I've been testing 20086 under idle conditions and it's stayed up for 40 hours. I'll be seeing if that can keep going when in service shortly.

If it's still possible for you, it might be worth it to RMA the unit. I chose to RMA and got the same DIR-615 I1, but new and shrink-wrapped.
I guess that RMA didn't do you much good, did it?

Or better yet, trade yours in for an earlier revision.
Where, exactly, would I go to do that?

That is possible but the problem could still be a hardware issue manifested in various ways by the software. This is why I was hoping for OpenWrt firmware. A comparison would lend weight on what was at fault. Please do keep us posted.

My experience was with build 21061. A single bad experience in my scenario is enough to invalidate the whole setup.

The RMA was worth it, as I was able to trade it in at a local store for an E3. This is very much YMMV and is in the grey area (although they're both DIR-615). You'd have to be extra cautious since the packaging of the E revision is significantly different than the I revision.

I still have another I1 though, so hoping there will be stable firmware for it eventually.

Over 13 hours of uptime with 20086 in service as router and Wi-Fi AP.

EDIT: Jinxed it by posting. It rebooted itself about an hour after this post.

Only not-working thing noticed thus far, the security logs don't show any incoming/outgoing connections, and the bandwidth graph for wireless isn't right.

r20453 no better than the rest, reboots periodically.

At this time I'm giving up. I recommend the rest of you with hardware I1 do as well if regular interruptions in service aren't acceptable as normal behavior.

Sorry to hear that. If I were you, I'd just try to acquire an earlier revision or different model altogether. I wish one of the developers could speak up and provide a better idea of what's going on. The issue sounds like units are overheating.

It's not overheating when different releases of DD-WRT have significantly different amounts of time before unscheduled reboot. With no activity on the router, recent releases reboot within an hour or so, the older releases will go many more hours before rebooting.

I only tried the DIR-615 because I didn't know I'd be getting an I1 and so didn't read this discussion beforehand, and I didn't believe the buyer reviews that said DD-WRT had problems - after all, it's DD-WRT and it's supposed to be better than that. But lately DD-WRT doesn't seem to have the developer interest in "getting it right" that existed some 5000 or so svn's ago.

Just to confirm that I've been using r23720 now for a few days without reboots or connection loss. Anything newer (to date) either drops the connection or reboots every few hours.
