My WRT54GL was droping connection over and over. I bought a JTAG kit on Ebay and did the erase nvram and it worked a bit better but not fully fixed. So I did a whole erase and then a CFE flash. It hung on the CFE flash and now I've got blinking power led and the lan leds are on all the time.
I can't seem to do much with the JTAG now and if I do a probeonly it hangs on that. Everything just hangs. Am I done?

you need to give more detail..

what version of jtag are you using?

"everything just hangs".. wtf does that mean?

possibly sticking a "clearing watchdog"? add the /nocwd switch..

getting stuck at "enabling memory writes"? add the /noemw switch.

There is a whole wiki on jtag. All this information is available.

good luck

Smile I got this far reading the wiki!

I got the lan lights to go out by using the /bypass switch on a flash.

I got it to erase nvram after that so I did another erase:wholeflash (because I figured the flash wasent really done with the /bypass switch)

Then I did the flash again and I'm back where I started

The flash hangs on: Erasing block: 1 <addr = 1fc00000>...

That's what happened the first time I tried it.

I'm using tjtag64 software windows 7 64

Ok! Thanks for your help! Because you said to try some more switches I got inventive. I flashed the bootloader with the /bypass switch

I then did the whole process over again and it worked!

Well atleast the cfe is now loaded have to try the tftp now that I've never done before.

Thanks Smile

Well it's not fixed Smile I can't tftp

The power led is flashing constantly, when I plug in the lan line the led comes on and it seems to be talking some atleast but no can flash.

readinr the wiki it seams the bootloader has a problem correct?

the cfe file I loaded was for the WRT54GL V 1.1

Is there some problem with that?

Ok in all the instructions this one thing is not clear. It appears that maybe the new cfe file needs my specific mac address from the lable?

Ok I have skynet to change that

but for some reason skynet wont update it's list?

is there some way to manualy load the cfe file where skynet can find it?

it's hard to believe skynet update is offline right now when I need it? Is that the case?

Well I got a hex editor (I've never edited a hex file before) and I tried to edit the mac id in a good cfe file. I didn't know how to find the 01xe position or whatever that posisition was. I viewed the file as text in the hex editor and saw something about mac and an id so I edited that. Didn't work it hung on writing the second line during the flash. I figure that's where I did the edit.

I wonder why skynet wont update on the net?

anyway I'm stuck again

I think the router is still fixiable

I have never been sucessful with the skynet utility.

Get a working GL cfe from the cfe collection thread or from my ftp site.

Using your hex editor, edit the mac using the mac from the sticker of your unit.

The mac is located at 0x1E00 in the cfe file.

I'm afraid I cant edit the file properly. Every time I do an edit it hangs on the second line. If I flash the stock cfe without editing it it loads but I cant tftd to it to load anything.

So close but I have no interest to learn how to use the hex editor on top of everything else I've had to go threw.

I give up.

what is the mac from your sticker.. I'll send you a cfe with your mac in it but that is not your tftp problem.

in regards to tftp'ing.. you do have a static ip set on your computer right? 192.168.1.10, mask 255.255.255.0

your router with a good cfe on it should:

have a blinking power light
the port your pc is plugged into should be lit.. nothing else.
the router should respond to pings with a ttl=100

I don't want to be a PITA- I've just been working on this router for a month (waiting on the JTAG ect...) I really would aprecieate it. This router is to be the main AP on our mission control station for rocket launches. We are trying to make it to space and then to orbit. Funds are low and I have to fix and scrounge as much as I can, Anyway the router is a WRT54GL SN:CL7C******** and the mac is 001EE57A6B63
