Hi all,
I'm trying to install DD-WRT to a Bullet M2 device and I'm running into a problem.

I've read through the WRT wiki and the Ubiquiti flash recovery page that explains how to upload the firmware using tFTP.

When I power ON the device while holding Reset for 10sec, the bottom 2 RED LEDs keep alternating. At that point, I am able to ping the device at 192.168.1.20, and the tFTP put command works... The image does get transferred to the device.
The problem is that the device just stays there forever. It accepts the file in its flash and then it doesn't do anything with it!
The same LEDs keep alternating, I can still ping at 192.168.1.20.

I waited for 5-10-15 minutes at a time... nothing happens. I've even tried the following filenames for my image:

This is what I downloaded from the site:
BS2M-DD-WRT-TFTP.bin

I used these names when uploading:
BS2M-DD-WRT-TFTP.bin
flash_update
wrt.bin

None of those make any difference.

Thanks for the help

Tried that... nothing.

I'll try using an earlier release of WRT.
I'll keep you updated

I just went through the older version of WRT, same thing.

I tried uploading the AirOS image, worked perfectly right away.

Here is the difference:
When the device is waiting for tFTP, the lights go up and down, two up, two down. As soon as the image is done uploading, they freeze (which means it's installing).

When I was installing the AirOS image, they froze for 2-3 minutes, then they went OFF, and the device rebooted.
When I was installing WRT, they froze for 3sec and then they went right back to blinking up and down (waiting for another tFTP image).

I'll keep at it, please let me know if I'm doing anything wrong.
Perhaps I should go back to AirOS 5.3 and then WRT? I am at AirOS 5.5 right now.

I'm all out of ideas, and I can't get it to flash correctly with WRT.

Anything else I could try?

Perhaps the bootloader of these devices changed as of AirOS 5.5 and we need to do something different to get them to flash now?

"Older version - newer version", sigh

You have not told what version you have tried, they all do have a build number and that is the only way for us to understand what builds you have flashed.

You're right, I'm sorry.

Here are the versions I've tried in the order I've tried them:
v24 preSP2 [Beta] Build: 14896
v24 preSP2 [Beta] Build: 14311
v24 preSP2 [Beta] Build: 14280
v24 preSP2 [Beta] Build: 14144
v24 preSP2 [Beta] Build: 13654

And from the looks of the website, those are all that exist for this device?

Tried this:

openwrt-ar71xx-ubnt-bullet-m-jffs2-factory.bin

Worked, first try...
I'd still like to get DD-WRT in there though

OK, I've just tried 18777 and I got the same result.

I followed the link,
then 2012
then 03-19-12-r18777
then ubnt_bullet_m2_hp
and BS2M-DD-WRT.bin

I power cycled the device and it went right back to the OpenWRT I was fooling around with.

Sad

Don't know if it makes any difference but cross-flashing is generally not supported, you are supposed to have AirOS 5.5 on the router when flashing dd-wrt.
See the sticky flashing and recovery thread in top of this forum section.

I did what you suggested but I still get the same result.

I can switch back and forth between AirOS 5.5 b12536 and OpenWRT with no problem at all.

I recorded a short video of the process. It's still uploading on YouTube. I'll post the link here when it's ready.

I think a serial log is more useful than a youtube video..

Do you flash OpenWRT through the boot loader with tftp?
