I have set it up as a client per the instructions here http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Client_Mode_Wireless however, at this stage I cannot get it to act as a client(internet out the wired ports, right?), at all, can't even ping 8.8.8.8 So I cannot proceed to create a virtual interface to finish the job.

Trying to access a Netgear WNDR3400 on stock firmware(cannot be modified) if that helps.

Where do I go from here?

I need a separate subnet for privacy reasons, no bridging.

Still nothing.

Other notes: Wireless light on router is on, unable to ping 8.8.8.8, or connect to 192.168.1.1, connected wired.

Did the "30/30/30" reset several times, and reflashed with current firmware again just to be sure I didnt get a bad flash.

Should probably also b noted this is a Ver. 4.25 router and I'm running "4.0" firmware. Assuming this is a typo as earlier versions are all marked 1.x, 2.x etc.

SOLUTION: Switched to gargoyle(DDWRT>stock>gargoyle), had it up and running in 5 minutes, one page setup.
