Hi!

I will need a new router at home.
I just got 4G and measured speeds of 86Mbit when connecting the modem to my computer.
When connecting the modem to my router (TP-Link TL-WR1043ND) with DD-WRT and i can only get speeds around 20Mbit.
I suspect that the router cant manage higher speeds from the USB-modem so, as i said. I need a new one.

I have some requirements.
1Gbps local network support
802.11n
DD-WRT
At least one USB-port (doh)

And i need something that can get me better speeds when using 4G.

Any suggestions?
I have looked att Asus N16 and Netgear WNDR3700 but i don't know anything about what speed i can expect with those..

thanks for the info-that's great. i haven;t kept up with the new features and good to know that you can do this stuff.

could have saved a few bucks instead of buying a less flexible cradlepoint mbr 1200 a while back.

I got same speed with my new ASUS RT-N16.

~20Mbit. Is this because of the router hardware or DD-WRT?

Modem -> computer = 80Mbit.
Modem -> router -> computer = 20Mbit.

I do not move the modem.

kind of strange to get eh same results from 2 different modems with DD-WRT. it could be something related to the DD-WRT and USB interface driver.

My only experience is with drives connected the USB ports on my Asus RT-N16 and I have definitely gotten throughput in the 22 megabyte per second range so I know it;s capable. 20 mbit would roughly equate to about 2 megabytes but you say to get 86 mbit(8 megabyte) directly attached to a PC.

hopefully someone else who has done what you are trying to do will lend their expertise.

My (current) solution:

Modem -> Dovado Tiny -> Asus RT-N16 with DD-WRT.

Tiny in bridge mode. Connected from Tiny LAN to Asus WAN. Wlan in Tiny disabled.
How bridge works: http://www.dovado.com/bridge/
http://www.dovado.com/tiny

That gives me 55 in and 20 out. I'm ok with that. Dovado should be able to push 70 - 85Mbit. Why i don't get more like 80 now i don't know but 55 is ok.

just wondering...what is your throughput up and down with

modem->pc

modem->asus->pc

modem->tp-link->pc

modem->tiny->pc

modem->tiny->asus->pc

modem->tiny->tp-link->pc

and are you wired directly via Lan cable between the 2 routers and the pc?

modem -> pc: 86/17-20
modem -> asus -> pc: 20-22/15
modem -> tp link -> pc: same as last one.
modem -> tiny -> pc: 52/18
modem -> tiny -> asus -> pc: 50-55/15-20
Same for tp-link.

Always cable when measuring speed.

atleast you don;t lose any speed with your current setup.

Since you are are connecting the Tiny to the DD-WRT router via a Lan cables, you are bypassing the DD-WRT/USB Modem issue.

if i had to guess, i;d say perhaps there is something faulty/inefficient in the USB/Modem port code in DD-WRT since you got the same results on both your dd-wrt devices. Hopefully someone will be motivated to look at it and make it work better if possible.

Note to self-download throughput might be capped at 2 mb per sec if using usb modem on DD-WRT.
