I successfully uploaded this file to the router:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2012/06-06-12-r19327/netgear-wnr2000v3/wnr2000v3-factory_NA.img

Now what can I do to take the next step on configuring this beast?

I can't wget a file from it since its not the primary connection and trying to upload directly to the interface failed on my attempt - admittedly, might not have been the right build for this rev.

Main question: what's the right next step?
Secondary: What's the right build for this Netgear?

Since you got the initial img on there now, you can use this to upgrade:

ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2012/06-08-12-r19342/netgear-wnr2000v3/wnr2000v3-webflash.bin

And you can use the webflash for future upgrading as well, no need to use the img file anymore.

I have the same router Netgear WNR2000v3. I followed the install procedure and installed the NA.img file.

Now my router keeps rebooting.

When Pinging, I get the following...

Ping response
Ping response
Ping response
Ping response
Ping response
Time Out
Time Out
Time Out
Ping response
Time Out
Time Out

Then Starts over again. I have setup the TFTP Client with the instructions provided, but I never get a response.

I had a very similar problem that I managed to fix, so I registered so that I could offer the solution.

First, make sure you have your IP set to some static address if it's not already. For instance, I had mine set to 192.168.1.17, and the default gateway to 192.168.1.1. Precise instructions can be seen here. Additionally, make sure to hold reset on the router long enough for the power light to be slowly flashing green (not orange).

After that, try flashing the wnr2000v3-factory_NA.img file from one of the earlier builds. You can look through them here. For me, ONLY the files from 03-08-12-r18687 worked, and nothing else. Every other version didn't play well with my router for some reason.

that file will brick a WNR2000v3.

@others: if flashed with above firmware, serial recovery is needed. see: http://www.techinfodepot.info/index.php/Netgear_WNR2000_3.0#Serial_Recovery

edit: forgot to mention. 18777 is the only version of dd-wrt that will not brick. all future ones are too big as Max Firmware Size = 3735552 Bytes
