Currently I have a Linksys WRT350n. My problem with routers is that my computer is far away from it and even with repeaters I can't get a stable connection. Plus my router is have transmission problems.

Anyways. I want a new router that can go the distance. Need one that has a strong wireless rate and is stable.

Read the "best router" sticky at the top of this forum. Question has been dealt with numerous times.

For long range:
Any Asus router will do fine
Pretty much any Cisco/Linksys E-series or newer (maybe not the E1000)

I'm also pretty sure that the internal antenna's on the Cisco routers are 3 dBi

I fell in love with the Asus RT-N66U. But I will do a little more research.

If you change the antennas on the RT-N66U it will be able to reach further and/or maintain better speeds.

I did a test with the stock 2dBi antennas and some 5dBi antennas. In a couple of weeks I'll be able to do tests with 11dBi antennas.

Results for a practical distance test with a few obstacles

Distance between router and pc: ~18 meters
Obstacles: 2x 30cm thick concrete walls + 2x 7cm thick light weight concrete walls

Readings on stock 2dBi antennas: RSSI -70 to -75, 3 bars, 18mbps
Readings on 5dBi antennas: RSSI -70, 3 bars, 21-43mbps

A possible increase in speed by 2.

I am looking forward to testing with "stronger" antennas.
