So, after my latest episode with jffs, I have followed advice from an IRC member which his handle I cannot recall ('V' something, if you're reading this, thank you Razz ), I have successfully configured and mounted an external USB flash disk to use as a /jffs partition. The process was pretty straightforward, and now I have R/W access to a 16gb partition with file persistence over reboots.

But of course, our journey does not end here, as the ways of embedded arch gods are unperdictable and mysterious.

No more words, I'm just gonna paste the log:
root@TP-LINK:~# cd /jffs
root@TP-LINK:/jffs# ls
tmp usr
root@TP-LINK:/jffs# ipkg -d root update
root@TP-LINK:/jffs# ipkg -d root list
ERROR: File not found: //usr/local/lib/ipkg/lists/whiterussian
You probably want to run `ipkg update'

Hi,

Forget use "/jffs" over EXTERNAL USB drive. This partition is for INTERNAL FLASH. You need to mount your external drive as "/opt".

And, please, request to developers to enable JFFS2 INTERNAL SUPPORT.

All people that are doing "/jffs" over USB are doing wrong!

Thanks for your comment, however I would like to see a firm basis for your claim that /jffs cannot be used with USB.

The dd-wrt wiki explicitly describes the process of creating a /jffs partition on an external USB drive.

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/JFFS#Add_USB_Storage

EDIT: Just to make things clearer, the same happens with 'ipkg -d ram', so USB probably doesn't play a role here.
