Hi Everyone,

I'm a new user here. Just ran into an issue last night after enabling USB storage / Nas support.

Everything worked great until I re-booted the router and it then became locked up.

I was able to do a 30/30/30 reset to get it into recovery mode.

What are my next steps? Can I load the DDWRT Firmware again after this or should I be clearing the NVRam via telnet?

Is USB storage / Nas supported on this router. If so, has anyone got this working successfully?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I haven't tried USB storage support and can't comment on that. In order to recover from your problem, the first thing to try is erasing the nvram, either from telnet (if that's working) or from Asus recovery mode. Once that's done and you have a fully working router again, you can try USB again or try flashing different firmware.

has anyone try flashing 26490M that already have WL1 that is stuck at 2.4ghz? Anyone erase nvram yet?

I flashed to 26490M but it still stuck at 2.4ghz on WL1. Wanted to see if clearing nvram will bring the 5ghz channel back. If someone else has already done it and still failed I won't do it.. (don't want to reprogram everything to be the same) lol

I had these issues with wl1 and duplicate MAC address. I upgraded to tomato rebooted the unit a couple time. then installed 26490 and everything is back to normal.

Hope this helps you too!

I did some testing....

clearing nvram doesn't fix your 5ghz is already messed up.

You must go back to a DDWRT firmware that isn't from 02/2015. I used 2608M (JAN). The minute you flash back to 2608M and Clear NVRAM it bring back the 5ghz on the WIFI.

You can now update to 26490M and erase NVRAM and the 5GHZ will STICK. Just don't load your old backup.bin from any of the February firmware. As soon as you load a February firmware you WILL LOSE 5ghz WIFI.

I'm not able to reproduce your success. I upgraded from 26339 to 26490 without resetting to defaults, and 5 GHz continued working. I then ran erase nvram && reboot, and wl1 was reported as 2.4 GHz instead of 5. I also tried restoring to defaults through the web UI and clearing nvram from Asus recovery, both also failed. The bug still persists in 26490.

trying flashing to 2608M clear nvram then to 26490M and again clear nvram.

installing ddwrt defeats the whole purpose of having an ac router , if you cant even get 5ghz to work

You mean 26081? No, that didn't do anything for me either. wl1 is still 2.4 GHz.

Hi guys,

please advice why do I have such poor performance on dd-wrt firmware?

First, I used latest official Asus firmware 3.0.0.4.376.3861 from March 2015, and internet speed was following (downlink/uplink/ping )

Windows PC with cable and ASUS PCE-AC66 adapter
Cable - 147 Mbps/3 Mbps/7 ms
5GHz - 145 Mbps/3 Mbps/8 ms
2.4GHz - 126 Mbps/3 Mbps/8 ms

Then I installed DD-WRT v24-sp2 (02/23/15) giga - build 26339M (since it doesnt have the issue with 5GHz), and downlink speed gotten much lower

Cable - 110 Mbps/3.2 Mbps/8 ms
5GHz - 88 Mbps/3.27 Mbps/10 ms
2.4GHz - 81 Mbps/3.17 Mbps/8 ms

The similar ratio I had with Ipad and Iphone devices with AC modules.

The settings are all by default, I only set 40GHz banwdiwth for 2.4Ghz and 80HGz for 5Ghz. Below is couple screenshots for asus and dd-wrt settings.

Is there any chance to have the same performance with dd-wrt?

ok this is what i did , to get 5ghz going on my router again ,
Detailed problem solving instructiions:

- turn of the router with the power button.
- keep the reset button pressed and turn on the router with the power button.
- as soon as the power led start blinking (very slowly ca. once every few seconds), you can release the reset button, but give the router some time to fully boot in recovery mode.
- once the router is fully booted in recovery mode just power it off by pressing the power button again.
- once turned of just turn it on again by pressing the power button.

After this procedure i can once more see (and connect to) the 5ghz signal again. This procedure has to be repeated every time the 5ghz network is invisible.

Please tell me if this procedure works for you to, so we can collect information on this issue and have it fixed by ASUS.

but , the real problem , was the power supply
I took the power supply out of the APC UPS 550 and connected it to an apc power supply bar and , now im getting constant 5ghz

first you do the power button fix on the router and change the power supply on your router to a different outlet or power source , may have something to do with the health of the power outlet

No need to go back to stock. Just reset to factory default after.

The update was installed smoothly, 5G WLAN starts up more slowly than the 2.4G now what I found, otherwise everything is functioning normally.
