I have been running the build listed in the wiki that is from back in 2013 (DD-WRT v24-sp2 (03/25/13) giga). It has been stable with no issues.
Does that old build have any security issues I should be concerned about?
And if so, what build should I upgrade to? Stability (especially with WIFI) is very important. I have tried to browse this thread but there are lots of mixed messages about which builds work and don't work well.
And can upgrades be done in-place or do I somehow need to export and import my settings (and is that possible)? I configured the router a long time ago so I don't remember everything I changed.

Why did you use tha OLD one ?
That is what the router database recommends.
Can I upgrade in place or do I need to clear the nvram? (if I need to clear what is the easiest way to export my settings so I can make sure to replicate them when I set back up)?
it;s always safer to reenter the settings. However you can backup your settings and restore them but I would only recommended when using the same router and if build numbers are relatively close. _________________ Please state what make and model router plus the build number and type of DD-WRT you are using. Alot of the builds are working great beta builds , problem im seeing is that , on the Asus AC66U it requires that you pull out the whole power plug from the device ,not just hitting the power button , once thats done the router and firmware work awesome , thanks again for the work you guys are doing
i've been on 27858 for about a month now on this router. It;s been pretty solid for me on 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz. _________________ Please state what make and model router plus the build number and type of DD-WRT you are using. I have a huge problem. I did a factory reset and upgraded to DD-WRT v3.0-r27944
For some reason none of the WIFI is working. It gets an IP from the router's DHCP. But once the host gets an IP. It will not ping to the router or beyond the router(WAN) or any LAN hosts. _________________ ASUS RT-AC3200 - Deployed Client's site

Try the mini cfe server.
Unplug the router, hold in the reset button while you plug the power back on.
Keep the rest button pressed till the power light flashes repeatedly then let go.
Open up four browser at 1&2.168.1.1 and see if the cfe mini server comes up. _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.
did a 30/30/30 reset. punch in setting just for WAN side... connected to WIFI. NOTHING. Can't access any LAN or WAN hosts
Did another 30/30/30 reset and loaded DD-WRT v3.0-r27858. Punch in setting for just WAN side and connected to WIFI. EVERYTHING WORKS!
Reloaded configuration from back. and everything works PERFECTLY
STAY AWAY FROM 10-09-2015-r27944!!!!!! Its a POS! _________________ ASUS RT-AC3200 - Deployed Client's site

I can confirm that 27944 is broken. There's something wonky with the wifi bridge, but I can't figure out what it is. The bridge config looks correct, all the vlan configs look correct. I can associate with the AP, but can't get a DHCP lease. Even if I manually set my ip address I can't ping the router's ip or anything else that should be on the network. The wired link works fine.
28015 (from 2015-10-23) is still broken in the same way. 27858 works for me. This is with a total reflash of the router back to stock and to each of the builds. I blew an entire day trying to figure out what was wrong before I started trying older builds
