Not complaining but I wanted to share my experience with my move over from a WRT610Nv2 to the Asus RT-AC66U. Help some people avoid 3 hours of pain.
As you can see from the above I was running 18946. I decided to upgrade to a more current build so I upgraded to 20675 on the 610Nv2. We upgrade did not go well. All 16 of my Port Forwarding was gone when I looked at it from the web interface. I tried to add them back but the interface would not allow me to. Screen would just blink when I press the Add button. So I decided to perform a factory reset via web Gui and restore the setting from back. Same situation occurred. Again I performed a factory reset and then a mtd -r erase nvram. I then spend the next 90 mins entering all the info back into the router via web Gui. Router was running fine for a day so rebooted and backed up a copy of the config. I then updates my Asus with DD-WRT v24-sp2 (03/10/13) giga - build 20908. Update went well. I restored a copy of the config from build 20675 and the unit rebooted. When it came up wl0 and wl1 were both being detected as 5GHZ radios[/img]
Ok after a factory reset the radios are still being detected as 5GHZ. I then unplugged the unit and press the reset button then plug it back in and waited for 5 seconds then the router detected the radios fine. Then spend another 90 mins entering all my config information. Router seems to be running ok for now.

I am new to DD-WRT I Flashed my Asus RT-ac66u I can not connect via a network cable but the wireless worked fine. I am not sure What I did wrong any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Ok, so I have come across some speed issues with this build.
Here is the scenario:
1. After initial flash, before modifying _anything_, everything appears to be working fine although not particularly fast. WI0 gets a speed of ~117 mbps (channel 6) while WI1 gets about ~250 mpbs (channel 153).
2. If I do a factory reset immediately after doing the flash, the speed jumps to ~250 mbps (WI0 on channel 6) and ~950 mbps (WI1 on channel 153). - This is leading me to think there is a software problem.
3. If I change the SSID to anything (even something random), the speed drops back to ~117 & ~250 mbps respectively. Add WPA2 personal to the connections and it drops further to 54 mbps on both channels and caps out there.
4. Factory firmware consistently gets me between 450 and 900 mbps for roughly the same configuration.
This is driving me nuts. I've tried tests 1-3 about a dozen times now and its pretty consistent. I've tried it with US, Europe & China settings, with no difference what so ever.
Anyone got any suggestions? BrainSlayer, can you try change the SSID and see if you notice any speed problems?
So I pulled apart my hardware version A2 router, as you can see in the picture below, the pcb rev. is 1.60. The images that “Magnetron1.1” posted back on page 2 shows that his is rev. 1.30. In rev 1.60, the JTAG pins have been removed. I have yet to take off the heat sink, and EMI shields to fully compare any differences.

My CPU (OC to 650MHZ) is ruinning constantly at 57%-63% when idle. I only have two wirless cams on wl0 streaming content to a QNAP nas on the lan. about 14Mbps/s
I reconnected my 610Nv2 and the CPU is basically 1% in the same situation.
Both configs are the same on each router.
A telnet session and a quick look at top shows kworker eating up most of the CPU cycles.
Is this typical for this model router / test build?
Flash is working well until I try to split off a port on the VLANs tab to vlan3. All wired switch ports become unresponsive (all five including WAN), but can still connect via WLAN. Just putting the settings back to normal on the VLANS does not solve, have to erase NVRAM to get back ports.
I have not messed with VLANs.So I can't comment on that.
I am concerned with the heat though. I left the top off and fired it up. The heat sink gets extremely warm to the touch. According to the stats page, the wireless cards are sitting at 60*C and 63*C.
I'm now looking for ways to mount tiny fans inside, but the case is so small I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to do this.
I also need to find a 12v power source inside.
While looking for a power source, I noticed the JTAG is missing on my PCB as well, yet it's still a 1.30 REV. I can see where the JTAG would mount as it has a spot for it, but the physical connection is gone.
With the top off, I set a 120mm fan on top of the heatsink. After a few minutes it seemed to stop around 39*C and 42*C on the two wireless cards.
Can't exactly leave it like that, so I'm looking into other options. I know Scythe makes a very, very slim 120mm fan. I believe it's only 12mm thick. Still not sure that 12mm will sit inside this thing though, gonna have to do some measurements tomorrow.

Only on OpenVPN. Any speed difference on PPTP might come from Asus using accelerated-pptp instead of just userspace pptp, or from CTF lessening the router load.

The LEDs are single-color, and as LEDs they don't have any brightness setting.
Turning them off is technically doable, will depend on whether BS wants to implement it or not. As a last resort, it could possibly be done through scripting.
Just figured I'd throw this out there - the AC66U uses the same CPU as the N66U, so once we have JTAG software that officially supports the CPU, JTAG should be easy. We're getting closer to a definitive answer on the N66; user W1SS managed to debrick his, and there are a couple of us still working on ours. The major difference is the flash chip. I see one of you pulled yours apart; care to take the shield off the backside of the board and see what the manufacturer of the chip is? The N66 flash chip is a Spansion S29GL256P10TF101 (32MB) but the AC66 flash chip is a Samsung 216 K9F1G08U0D SCB0, so even if support for the BCM4706 is added to zjtag, it won't recognize or handle the flash properly.
