Hi! I just inherited a friend's router from China. But, I've looked everywhere - the TP-Link site, this forum, other searches, but it looks like this version doesn't exist! It says on the bottom of the router that it's TL-WR841N version 2.0, and the router software seems to indicate the same.
Has anyone else seen this router before? I believe it's only sold in China. If so, do you think DD-WRT would work on it? Which version?
Thanks so much! For some reason, I just *assumed* that the router info on the bottom was correct. Unfortunately, some of these things can't be assumed. I did a preliminary breakdown (couldn't get the whole cover off without snapping something), and there did not seem to be genuine TP-LINK parts (at least I didn't see the logo inside). Part of circuit board read "Draft N Wireless Router" v.1.1, but I'm not sure which brand.
Anyway, when I have time to open it completely, I'll maybe post some pictures. I'm not familiar with recognizing parts!
OK - took it apart, and here's the insides. Sorry, but I'm such a noob at this. I tried to take high res picture of all the important parts. Let me know if you need me to retake any of them. It'll be great if you can tell me what I'm dealing with! This is definitely one of those routers from the "Far East".
So, what is the likelihood of me bricking this router by choosing the 1.5 firmware? High? Medium? Low? I wouldn't even know what original firmware to revert to because it's in Chinese.
