Hello....first I love my r6300, but I hate their software! I want my dd-wrt back.....but also I'm a novice and can not afford to toast my hardware. Has anybody tried this yet and is it stable? Any input would be greatly appreciated! I'd even be willing to buy dd-wrt's firmware if it was stable........

I can definitely relate to you. I too hate NetGear's Firmware for the R6300. Don't want to brick my router either.
Perhaps the author of the DD-WRT firmware will post some pics of it running or details of what’s included (VPN USB etc.).
Installed DD-WRT last night. Install was easy, no problem.
5GHz DOES NOT WORK.
Tried all modes, all encryption, etc. Nothing could make the 5GHz radio work.
WebGui shows 5GHz Radio is on, and shows using Channel 36, but does not show secondary channels regardless of my channel bandwidth.
Noticed if I make any change to the 5GHz radio that the router would become unresponsive for 2-4 minutes and sometimes required a hard reset.
I am not sure of I am having a TX signal problem or if there is a problem with the MCS auto rates. Using both DD-WRT and Netgear OEM firmware I get -55 to -70 RSSI at roughly 60-70 feet away with 1 or 2 walls (its my smart led tv, media center computer and PS3), but using the OEM firmware I get MCS link rates of 25 - 115 mbps. Using DD-WRT I get the same RSSI, but MCS link rates of 0 which limit me to 5mbps and make the router useless. Tried to increase AND decrease TX (30 and 140 power, which I know is a bad thing...of course...it did not help...
These are the only two problems I noticed immediately and forced me to go back to OEM. Sorry, I have a wife that uses her iPad and it took 20 minutes for the complaints to start when I switched to DD-WRT, so I had to go back to OEM.
But WOW....GREAT JOB...I hope this gets fixed....When it works I WILL BE SWITCHING BACK TO DD-WRT....Netgear OEM is a joke and I will be purchasing a second R6300 when I see this work correctly...I really need a second R6300 for my living room area (LED TV, Computer and PS3) and I want to bridge the 5GHz 802.11ac (With WPA which Netgear OEM will not do) and use the 2.5GHz for clients with WPA2-AES...
This is my first consumer router/AP, I came from a Cisco Aironets. It is great to see this custom firmware. I feel like I am back on Aironet...Again...THANK YOU!!!
Thank YOU! To ALL the Developers that work on this...
FYI: My setup is:
(1) Netgear R6300
All Devices are 802.11n
Macbook Pro
Ipad 2
ASUS TF300T Tablet
(2) His and Hers - HTC Rezound
iPhone - for work
Lenovo T420 Laptop Connected to TV for Media Center
Panasonic LED 3d Smart TV with WIFI
Marantz AV Receiver with WIFi
Dell Desktop with Cisco/Linksys USB WIFI Adapter
PS3 using 802.11n bridge
HP PhotoSmart WIFI Printer
Had Dell Desktop running Plex and Lenovo via media center on the 5GHz band and everything else using 2.4Ghz....Would like to use 2.4G for clients
Thanks all for your feedback.
5GHz worked fine in my set up. I will test it again.
Did you test 5GHz with Netgear's stock firmware? I am just trying to make sure that there is no problem in the setup.
Could you please tell me the set up and router configuration?
I am not running the dd-wrt right now, so I am unable to give you the dd-wrt config I was using.
Yes, I had my macbook pro and my Lenovo T420 and a Dell T3400 with Linksys Wifi all using the 5GHz band...Everyone else was on 2.4...
The Netgear Stock ROM prior to, and now, is setup with both radios enabled. 2.4 is set to 450 with 40MHz forced on. The 5GHz is set to 1.3Gbps. Signal and data rates are solid. Guest mode IS NOT Enabled now, but was enabled prior to.
What else can I tell you. I want to help you as best I can.
If you need my help for testing I can go out and buy a second R6300 tomorrow. If you could provide me the new ROMs I will install them and use them everyday and provide solid feedback. I will leave my wife on the Netgear ROM.
