I created some extra static leases as placeholders, setting MAC to 00:00:00:00:00:00 and a host name to dot ("."). After doing this communication through WAN stopped working - I still get WAN IP but data are not being sent (there are no replies when I ping DNS which I got automatically from provider).

Yes, using dot as a host name is terrible idea (I guess it's forbidden) but still it should not break WAN especially as it's NOT being used.
It would be nice to have gui validate host names against dots.
