Ok so I am stuck between these 2 routers that is going to be used as a wireless repeater with 5-8 devices.

The N16 has 32k nvram and the N66 has 32k but can be upgraded to 64k with a higher chance of bricking it... Should I just stick to N16 - will the 32k nvram be enough for simple repeater setup with 5-8 devices connected to it?

TIA

you have an RT-N16 that retails for around 65-89$$ versus an RT-N66U that retails for 110$-155$ that is newer, more powerful cpu, more memory and has a dual radio.

Why would you not want your RT-N66U to be your main router and the less expensive unit to be a simple repeater?

66U by far as the repeater.. its got more RX sensitivity & bound to have more TX as well.. place it as far from the N16 as possible with the N16 still having a decent connection, with the power of the 66U it should really throw your signal far out there, like the point of a repeater.

I guess my post was misleading a little bit

I am connecting a Modem/Router(802.11n) combo to another Access Point via wireless. This access point will either be a RT-N16 or RT-N66U. This is in a house and the modem/router combo is upstairs, and the signal is not strong enough in the basement, that is why I need a repeater on the 1st floor of the house. Either a RT-N16 OR RT-N66.

Anyways I already BOUGHT the RT-N16 and I am going to flash it now.

My question is: Can I just leave the mini .TRX that is initially flashed on the router and use that as my firmware? Or do I need to flash again with another version of DD-WRT? I don't need any features, so the INITIAL MINI will be enough for me.

TIA

Well the N66 would of been far better but the N16 is still good, said to be up there with the E3000. Yes you can leave the mini build & use that if thats all you want.

OK Thank you for the response, I flashed it successfully, using mini version i have 13kb of NVRAM available. We'll see how it does when I setup the router as a repeater. Will report back.
