Model: Netgear WNDR4300
dd-wrt: 24160
problems: USB sometimes unmount automatically
WI-FI sometimes die and need to reset
Hello I'm writing this topic because I issued some minor problems with my router and USB that sometimes unmounts automatically and I need to reset the router.
Another problem is the wi-fi that rarely dies and makes me need to reset the router too.
I'd like to upgrade to a newer version of this firmware but I'm afraid that It will be worst, so please if someone has experience and can tell me which version will fix my problems, I'll appreciate.
@SirDracula
I found it was easier to simply downgrade to the stable version. Everything works fine, and I don't use any features that use OpenSSL.
Which version is that?
v24 pre sp2 - build 21061
Honestly, I couldn't find an image to that I knew would work with the router.
In addition, I decided to start building one using there guide, but couldn't find an OpenWRT config file, so I went ahead and pulled the stable image from here.
I might try out OpenWRT, but I will need to sign up there for help on finding a compatible image or config file. It's a shame, as I would love to get IPv6 using IPv6CP, but it's a pain to setup on DD-WRT, and I don't want to use stock as it's stupidly slow when configuring it.

Not sure I would call 21061 stable, it's got its own set of issues. It just happens to work better for your use case. This is the common DD-WRT pattern, you have to find a build that works well enough for you.
You don't need to build OpenWRT, the image is here:
https://downloads.openwrt.org/barrier_breaker/14.07/ar71xx/nand/
You want the file openwrt-ar71xx-nand-wndr4300-ubi-factory.img for the initial flash, squashfs-sysupgrade is for upgrades once you have OpenWRT.
I recently upgraded to the last build 25251 on wndr43000.
I can't use JFFS2. Does anyone know how to use it?
I want to host my splash.html inside but I cannot create anyfile in /jffs/
I tried the last build 25251 and it seems to be very unstable with wndr4300... I will install back the previous build.
Unstable because I use the nocatsplash to create a hotspot and when some devices connect to the wifi, the nocatsplash page will not appear. And the user will be unable to use this Internet. The only fix is to turn off the router for 30 second then start it again....
It's very a pain in the ass to find a ddwrt version which can provide a stable hotspot.....
Does anyone can provide other directions or good advices in order to make a stable hotspot???
I am very helpless now.... I really tried many things....
I am pretty sure the problem is the nocatsplash within ddwrt which is regardless the version of ddwrt very unstable....
I also try other solution such as hotspot system but it turns out to be extremely slow in China.... nocatSplash is in theory just what I need.....
looking forward for good advices... thanks.
By the way I also have a problems regarding the log why are very small. They will automatically delete themselves so I can't have a decent log to study where is the problem...
I am also unable to use JFFS2....
I enabled it in adminitration did save and apply setting then enabled clean jffs2 applied setting, disable clean jffs2 save and applied setting restart router but when I ssh in the router, all the file I create are not saved....
Any helps??
So far, I have found build 25309 to be extremely stable.
Also, I haven't had my mysterious disconnect issue.
Glad to see the start of IPv6CP being integrated.
I find the updated graphics to take some getting used to, but overall they are a nice touch.

Does the build 25309 have miniDLNA and bit torrent client installed? Also did you find any stability issues? Please confirm.

As I originally said, I haven't found any stability issues.
I haven't seen anything with miniDLNA or a torrent client. Later on I can take some screen shots of the settings and post a link to them.

Ok, I was wrong they have miniDLNA and torrent settings in there.
Here are screenshots of some of the configuration, showing the new interface tweaks and picture 9 has the page with the settings for miniDLNA and torrent.

In your opinion is DD-WRT or OpenWRT best for Netgear WNDR4300? Please confirm.

It depends on what you want. If you want something that simply work out of the box, DD-WRT is best.
If you want something that you get a basic build, and then can add features through packages to get a customized experience, OpenWRT is better. Keep in mind that there is a learning curve with OpenWRT. Depending on your experience with Linux it's either long or short.
In addition, each router is different. That's why some builds work better for some people then others.
If your up for it, I would try out both and see which one you like better. For me, DD-WRT has been more stable then OpenWRT, however that's also with my specific router and configuration.
