Updating that model can be an adventure.
You could try manually flashing 35831. Here's the main thread for updating WR1043ND v1: https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=316454 _________________ R6250 with fan on; wifi off

If you still use r33345 or elder, you may easily update WR1043ND v1 to r36104 from Web UI without any trouble (webflash.bin).
But since r33375, you will need additional steps (TFTP or SSH CLI. I prefer TFTP, easier to me & more safe without any typo issue) to restore TP-Link factory FW for flashing r36104 (factory-to-ddwrt.bin).
That's good! Check the SVN. There has not been significant functionality addes since then. I mean that the newer editions don't provide hovercraft functions nor any other significant difference in features. _________________ R6250 with fan on; wifi off

If you still use r33345 or elder, you may easily update WR1043ND v1 to r36104 from Web UI without any trouble (webflash.bin).
but after updating, can you continue to use the web ui for future updates or will web ui updates continue to fail?
I'm stuck on r35034 which also fails to update via Web UI.
As what I said, only the WR1043ND v1 with "r33345 or elder" builds, you may flash it to any version equal or elder than "r36104", via the Web UI.
Since you are using "r35034", obviously it's newer than "r33345", the only way to change ddwrt builds is via TFTP or SSH / TTL CLI beyond r33345.
It doesn't matter that you upgrade from any builds such as r33345 or elder. It's only effected by the currently running build.
Literally, the "upgrade" isn't truly upgrade based on elder builds, it totally remove elder then write a new one.
So, you can't continue to use the web ui for future updates after upgrading any newer build than r33345.
Any elder build won't effect the newers, except the settings.
But obviously, this issue also doesn't relate to any setting glitch.
Elder builds will be replaced completely by newers in any "upgrade", always.
