I find the same thing with factory firmware. It usually works if you're just doing standard gateway stuff, but when you need the more advanced functions, you find all kinds of quirks. Or, the one option that makes the advanced feature useful is missing.

Yes, this is the DD-WRT way, some people love it as it is. If you love the guarantee of having stable firmware, stick with AsusWRT or Tomato.

but the question remains, when you see reports of people not having success, do you then remove those builds or update them?

Some builds were removed from FTP.

Here are my experiences with ASUS RT-N16, k2.6 builds as I never managed to have k3.x working on those routers.

My basic needs are to have HTTPS administration interface with a SSL certificate that is accepted by recent browsers, 2 LAN ports and a wifi on the private network and 2 LAN ports and a wifi on the public network. Both wifi must have a password.

So far the last revision that meet my requirements is 26125. The newer revisions including the current latest (29621), if I set security on wl0.1 it will not be functional. A bug report was filed about a year ago but it seems so far to not have been fixed: http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/bugtracker/view.php?id=4692

What do you guys recommend for Netgear WNDR3300??

I am planning to test the following builds on this router:

1. r21286
2. r21676
3. r26138

Could you please recommend me something more stable with great wifi speeds!?

Thank You

Linksys EA 6900 with XVortex CFE
See Stable builds at: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=291230

I have never had problems with Kong's build 29620M, so if you are looking for a "stable" build, that is the one I recommend, but 29300M is also regarded as very stable.
The first K4 build wich was stable for me was Kong's 30430M.
Further builds with good mileage: Kong 30465M, Kong 30700M

This is an older build (Nov 2014) but has been working with zero issues for the last 2 years on r6300v1. DDWRT build is by MyOpenRouter. If anyone just wants a stable build for Netgear r6300v1 definitely recommend this one - https://www.myopenrouter.com/sites/default/files/downloads/file/109/r6300_ddwrt_nov2014.zip

Mirror to the download in case original ever goes down - https://mega.nz/#!DgEHSSDL!dvBLcgHkCNUNDUr4fBCTQ4EuVd-hfJ11-5v6scv0qXQ

Build 31870M is a very good build for Asus AC68U. Stable wifi on both bands. Everything seems to work solidly without any issues

I have no performance issues. Get the full throughput l'm paying for from my ISP. I have 96 MB down and slightly less up, paying for 100/100. Does not get better if I bypass the router.

Could you please post a link to 31870M as I can only find 31980M and it is giving me 25 MB download on my 70MB link

Thanks

@Xeon2k8 Thanks for posting your feedback on the build. I always struggle trying to find out when/which build to update to.

for my Netgear R7000 , Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r30880M kongac (11/14/16) has been the most stable.

Everything works, VPN, IPV6 the lot...

I do have one gripe, my ZyXEL modem/router (VMG8924-B10A running as modem only - bridged) reports it's capable of 56Mbps download, but the Netgear R7000 only manages 48Mbps download speed...? Anyone else figure out how to achieve max throughput...?)

Any newer Firmware sends my router haywire ! Evil or Very Mad

Would be grateful if any other newer version is stable on any owners R7000 ?

thanks Very Happy

Have tested for more than 2 months Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r32170M kongac (06/11/17) on Netgear R6400 and Dlink-DIR860L-A1 and have no complaints. Everything that I have been testing works fine and very stable (no restarts or errors) - Open VPN server, PPTP VPN server, DNScrypt, dnssec, privoxy, remote HTTPS management, USB file sharing and SAMBA server. Working on both 2.4 and 5 GHz WLAN and getting excellent speeds both on home LAN and WAN and good range as well.
One thing noticed with Dlink-DIR860L - tried to use it as repeater on 2.4GHz - again works fine except I cannot connect to VAP if authentication is enabled for the VAP, so clients had to connect only to 5GHz radio. Desided that it is firmware related so updated to Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r33010M kongac (08/09/17) - again all worked fine and stable except for the repeater as described above. Did not try this with the Netgear R6400.
