Hi!

Is it possible to compile dd-wrt for Tenda W1800R AC1750 router?

I think it's similar to Asus RT-AC66U. Tomato USB by Shibby supports it but all Shibby firmwares fail to connect to a WPA2 AES ssids in client mode, at least I checked it on the recent Broadcom based devices.

Info I got through serial (Shibby's firmware installed)

I would also be interested in this.. I am thinking about an AC upgrade and this router is available for £80 in the UK.

errman, what version of Shibby's are you running on it? Is it this? http://tomato.groov.pl/download/K26RT-AC/120-EN/tomato-W1800R_RT-AC6x--120-AIO-64K.trx

It would be excellent to have a cheaper AC66U contender with dd-wrt Very Happy

Yes, I'm using the latest firmware by Shibby. Honestly no changes for me from version to version. It can't connect in a client mode to WPA-WEP ssids. Only open network does. I think it must be far better with dd-wrt.

As for Tenda W1800R - yes, it's a kind of cheaper version AC66U but not cheap in all. Fairly well build. Stable work. A bit slow rebooting though... I think many people would love to have it running with dd-wrt on.

I would like to have this too. I'm running TomatoUSB Version 1.28 by shibby. The factory firmware is garbage.

I am able to connect to my APs using WPA2 AES (personal) with no problem running Tomato.

With the factory firmware, I could never get it to stay on WPA2, it kept going back to WPA.

Would also like dd-wrt for my W1800R.

Agree with statement the stock firmware is rubbish.
Am running Tomato by Shibby V1.28 which is a great improvement but I hate scrolling down screens.

I miss the tabbed dd-wrt interface from my old Linksys and Asus routers. Would convert over tomorrow if it were available.

It's a great package for the price, very well built and performs very well. Just needs good firmware to make it a complete package Very Happy how about it?

As long as no dev has one it is not going to happen.
This unit has 16MB flash, thus requires a new smaller build and some work regarding flash layout.

Thus unit is a must.

Hello, I just bought a newer model Tenda W1801R that was on sale cheap for $59.99 and searching for more info on it. I am wondering what the difference is between this W1801R and the W1800R. Tenda specifications don't give much info on the internal chips used. I am wondering what they changed on this newer model and if the Tomato firmware will work on this new unit also? Would love to see DD-WRT firmware fitted to this unit too!

I am currently running it on Tenda's stock firmware and it is stable but the radio signal strength on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands seem much weaker than my Asus AC-68P router's signals. I don't know if I should return it because of this or if maybe a custom firmware can up the power output.

The FCC database shows that W1801R is identical to W1800R from electrical point of view, the new FCC Id # is requested "for marketing purposes".

This could mean that the software is different between them, maybe more bells & whistles in WR1800?
It may also be that they want to flog the router cheaper through distributor B and not want to show that it is the same router as sold by distributor A..

Thanks for the info on the W1801R. I looked it up on the fcc id search site and see that it is the exact same router as the original W1800R. They only requested a model name change and I guess the only reason for that is what you said... to sell it at a different price point under a different model name. They are selling it now for a cheaper price than when they introduced it as the model W1800R. So folks who want one, should opt for the W1801R and pay less for it! I got it on sale for $59.99 when Newegg had it on a one day special sale. I figured for that price I can't get too disappointed.
FYI, today I just went and installed Shibby's Tomato firmware version 124 Mega-VPN and it installed fine and is running fine. I don't know if Tomato improved the performance over the original Tenda firmware but it does offer way more features and configurability.
