Hi Guys,

Why with DD-WRT, WDS requires the MAC address of the second router into the first?

On my TP-Link routers, I have only to declare the first into the second (the client).
If I do that on my Linksys E3000, that doesn't work...

Broadcom and Atheros devices don't play nice with each other.

Do you mean Broadcom requires a double MAC and Atheros not?

WDS between different chip vendors (atheros, broadcom, ralink) will not work most of the time since it's INCOMPATIBLE and no we will NOT fix it.

Yes I know that, but I'd like to understand why DD-WRT requires the MAC address of the second router into the first.

In other words, if the TP-Link firmware requires only to use the MAC address of first router, why DD-WRT doesn't work in the same way, I mean without cross referencing?

If you you don't want to enter MAC addresses in the DD-WRT WDS GUI then you enable Lazy WDS.

Ah OK, that's what "lazy WDS" means !

Consequently, the TP-Link WDS is only a "lazy WDS"...
