I measured the USB 3.0 performance using a wired gigabit network - transferring large files (mkv, avi, etc.)from a computer to the router. Only got 15-20 MB/s using a Seagate 4TB USB 3.0 drive connected to the router. Another 4TB drive connected directly to a USB 3.0 port on the PC gets 80-100 MB/s.

15-20MB/s is what you can expect from a USB port on a router with a good cpu like in the r6250, your PC cpu is 3-4 times faster and has a high-speed bus for transfers from the USB controller.
USB 3.0 port in routers means that it can communicate with USB 3.0 devices but you will not get 3.0 speeds.

With stock fw, i'm sure they both work, as for dd-wrt, this unit is still a WIP.

I have used firmware posted in http://www.myopenrouter.com/download/48772/DD-WRT-BETA-for-NETGEAR-R6250/

and in this firmware both 2.4 and 5 bands are working.

I've tried all the builds kong has for the r6250, using his guide for setting up wireless and I can't get the same speed and range as on stock firmware.
On stock I get almost all of my 30/3 connection, on Kong's about half that.
On my rt-ac68u and r6300 I get full speed on Kong's.

Are you suggesting to stay on netgear fw? I'm only having issues with 2.4 band. 5 band A and AC are fine. I have been offered by netgear to exchange it by the warranty, but I dont know if it will fix the issue.

This is what I get. I have comcast 30/5 Mbps speed. Using older intel 54 Mbps on A band on 5 band I get full 30/5 speed. Same if use my intel 7260AC card on newer laptop in AC(5 band) mode. When I switch that old card from A 5 band to G on 2.4 band I get 8/5 speed, same when I use 7260 in 2.4 N. There seems to be the issues with 2.4 band side of my router.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I should have mentioned, the 5ghz band is fine regardless of build or fw. The 2.4ghz crawls sometimes to 5.5mbps on Kong's.
I haven't tried brainslayer's builds yet. I might tomorrow.

I have suspicion that it's a hardware issue in R6250. So you have the same issue with 2.4 band, right? I didn't mention that I have a E2500 running tomato in bridge mode to R6250 on 5 band and as AP on 2.4 band. If I connect to E2500 on 2.4 band and bridge over to R6250 speedtest shows about 20/5 on any wifi card. The reason it is lower because there are a lot of APs in my area and it's overcrowded.

Let me know how brainslayer's build worked out.

Wouldn't make a difference. BS build is the same as my NEWD. Only thing that could be responsible for it is, that the init params are not correct. Maybde they fixed them and the dump I got had params that were not correct at that time. We could check it if you flash netgear firmware, do a reset and dump nvram.

ON the R7000 they changed the inits 2 times with firmware updates, they had typos all over the place in their default radio init params.

I will do that when I get home.
Do an nvram show and post it here or do you want a pm?

First look up telnetebable on netgear router. Google it. Openwrt has a good guide.
