I just got me a shiny brand new ASUS RT-AC68U. Having trouble finding the correct firmware. It is on the supported device list and says the minimum required version is 'RT-AC68U - build 22490 - 20131008'. However I am not having any luck finding it as I surf the eko folder on the ftp site. Can some one please point me in the right direction?
(Anyone considered adding such URLs to the minimum builds column on the supported devices list?)
Also, I am wondering if installing ddwrt on the RT-AC68U is as easy as just using the factory firmware to upload it, as the RT-N66U tutorial suggests here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Asus_RT-N66U
thanks!

Anyone thought about adding such URLs to the minimum builds right in the supported devices list?

You'd better wait a while, there has been some other general improvements for Broadcom ARM after r22490.
It is 3 month since last public build so a new one ought to be out "real soon now" _________________ Kernel panic: Aiee, killing interrupt handler!
but... but... but... its too pretty to just sit here and do nothing... (sniffle)... =D
ill sit tight, as you suggest... THANK YOU for all of your effort and everything you do to support this project... it has served us extraordinarily well for many years... cheers!
i believe the RT-AC68U is going to become a very popular router and hope it gets its own page on the Asus wiki:

there is already a fw available for the ac56. but yes, this firmware is compatible with the ac56 as well, you just cannot install it from the asus webgui. but if dd-wrt is already installed it will be accepted and it will also work without issues. the firmware detects the device automaticly. so in fact this image will run on alot existing BCM4708 based devices _________________ "So you tried to use the computer and it started smoking? BrainSlayer... you just made my day!
is uploading through the factory default firmware the way to go on this device?
Thanks again!!!
sure. thats the way it was made. it can be installed on the asus webgui, with tftp recovery and from dd-wrt webgui itself (which is likelly not yet running on your device )
new FW for AC68U/R will be released next week to solve the USB3.0 transfer speed issue, so I am wondering if a new DDWRT would also be rebuilt based on new Asus FW?

dd-wrt was never based on asus fw. but we do take care about hardware specific patches from asus. asus gives us private informations about changes. so i would even not wonder if dd-wrt has no transfer speed issue already _________________ "So you tried to use the computer and it started smoking? You'll note that the ASUS doesn't do so well in this test. That's because I had to enable the Reducing USB 3.0 interference setting, which appears to slow the USB 3.0 port to USB 2.0 speeds. I tried multiple times to get the tests to run, but each time the router share would disconnect while copying the first 1 GB VOB file in the test folder. Maybe ASUS should put some shielding on the USB 3.0 connector..

@BrainSlayer if there is a patch for this issue we have to make sure it will only be applied for the asus.
What this does basically is prevent xhci from loading, forcing the disk to load as a USB2 device. It's currently not working properly, some USB3 disks will not be detected at all with this option enabled.
Asus did some light patching to the USB kernel stack for this - I can dig it up for you if you want.
The USB3 shielding issue might be overrated anyway. I had no trouble pushing over 50 MB/s on my own RT-AC68U with a NexStar3 HDD, using the (now pulled) FW 374_217. 374_205 is known to be broken, and disks are not properly controlled by xhci.
Proper shielding must also be present in the USB device itself, or otherwise no amount of shielding around the router's USB port will help.
