Good day
Some advice please.

I apologize if I'm repeating issues previously discussed, but as a novice, I couldn't find answers to my questions.

As a novice, after becoming thoroughly familiar with DD-WRT, I was about to flash my NETGEAR R7000 when it was struck by lightning and now seems to partially.

Noticing that the R7000 had a Broadcom chip, and since Broadcom-based devices are commonly used in DD-WRT projects, I mistakenly assumed that all Netgear routers are supported by DD-WRT.

Now, I realize that DD-WRT only supports specific Broadcom chipsets, which adds to my confusion:

If the NETGEAR Nighthawk R7000 router features a dual-core Broadcom BCM4708A chipset and the NETGEAR Nighthawk RAX43 router also uses the Broadcom BCM43684KRFBG chipset, then why is only the R7000 compatible with DD-WRT? Ae all Baodcom kenels different?

I understand from my research that the Netgear RAX120 router is undergoing research and development for OpenWrt support.

Will the RAX43 ever become compatible with DD-WRT, as it seems to share features with the RAX120?

Thanks
Appreciate you hard work.

RAX120 is Atheros based
RAX120v1 will never get support even from openwrt
hardware donations are needed for the RAX120v2

Broadcom AX routers will most likely never be supported either

There are plenty of 802.11ac Atheros based Netgear routers supported by DD-WRT. Personally I've been using the R7800s, as they're fast enough (AC2700 class) to support my internet connection and relatively easy to find (and inexpensive) used on eBay. The R9000 and XR500 are also good routers and well supported by DD-WRT.

R7800 / XR 500 the same...SoC almost same specs.. I vote for R7800 as i have good experience with it..
R8900 / R9000 and XR 700 almost the same...practically the same... excellent unbeatable CPU performance..sadly those have a heat issue and for a good heavy use, those may need a cooling mods...
as well the complex vlan setup, that comes with those...dual switches on those...

If Dynalink AX3600 (DL-WRX36) or Askey RT5010W gets DDWRT support soon, than that would be the next suggestion...OpenWRT has a support already for it... Cool

Thanks Guys.

I appreciate your replies. (Also, thanks for moving post to correct section - noticed mistake but didn't know how to move it.)

Hopefully, by the time my warranty expires, somebody will come up with a solution!

Can I ask, is there a way perhaps to add an automatic weekly reboot to the RAX43, as the DD-WRT firmware has for the R7000?

Thanks
