not sure if it's just me but has anyone else had any issue with autoAP with a whr-hp-g54 and connection not being consistant? one minute I'm cruising at 54mbps and next 48 and then 24, and then 36and just keeps fluxuating and I am about 6 feet from router.

A lot of this has to do with power output of the unit...it may be set too high. If the SNR is high then the router will automatically cut back the connection speed to compensate to try and improve the SNR.

try turning your Tx power setting down to 10mW for the HP-G54 model and see if it helps.

while talking about power issues what is the recommended power settings for the hp-g54 router? also I noticed on ebay some note that this model will put out upto 384mW of power. how is this? the firmware only notes upto 251mW? Is there some additional docs I can read from maybe some tests others have preformed in testing it during the testing of this unit?

I also notice as long as I connect directly to a router wirelessly as a repeater I am getting a much better responce compared to doing autoAP. For whatever reason I can't get autoAP to work like it should. Any suggestions? I really want to mount a unit like this to my dash with maybe an external antenna to the top of my truck roof as a mobile autoAP since I do so much travel setting up satellite internet units and range and a connection would be a HUGE perk. Any suggestions in that area as well?

thanks.

I have noticed some of that here at home.

Things to do:

a) using a local ftp server, transfer some good sized files (.5GB or so) from
your "server" (a wired computer) to the wireless computer. Make a
scientific test at several graduated power levels ie. 20-30-40-50-60-
70-80 mw on up to 200mw. DO NOT move the wireless computer.
This table should tell you where the optimum power level is for your
environment. I like ftp because most clients will tell you the overall
transfer rate. Use the same file over and over again to eliminate that
variable.

b) Fool around with combinations of Frame Burst on/off and Afterburner
on/off/auto. Results with this will vary greatly depending on the adapter
in the wireless computer.

c) If you do move around a lot with the wireless computer don't be too upset
when the connect rate changes. This is natural as the signal level and the
multipath interference changes.

Let us know what you find out and good luck.
